... with all the doom and gloom postings, respected veteran players leaving and the apparant disregard of players from LL staff sure makes it hard for a new player to be optimistic and encouraged about the future. I know forums can be a cess pool of angst but heck the negative feeling around here are pretty depressing.

I know forums can be a cess pool of angst but heck the negative feeling around here are pretty depressing. SL basic rule number one: All issues discussed in the forums are blown out of all reasonable proportion. SL basic rule number two: Despite the 587 previous times the forum community has declared the sky is falling it still hasn't actually fallen. SL basic rule number three: Most people who make dramatic exits in protest soon make a quiet return under a new name. _____________________

and honestly these forums aren't the best i've ever been to.. ![]() Aye, I'm no playboy of the interwebs, but SL's forums are the most vitriolic and contentious I've encountered, and rarely reflect the mood or activity in-world. They make a nice newspaper if you don't mind moving a mountain of crap to find a penny, but don't let them get you down. _____________________

... with all the doom and gloom postings, respected veteran players leaving and the apparant disregard ... The in-world experience is much richer and more diverse. I cannot count the number of times a Linden has come to help, even it seemingly trivial matters ( for example, a griefing incident that I was not directly a target of). They are very responsive. Like everything and everyone esle, there are good experiences and people and not so good experiences and people - makes life that much more intersting ![]() Welcome to SL and have fun! |

This is so completely true.. And the forums honestly do not reflect the world itself.... Quite the opposite to tell you the truth.. maybe ppl are so nice and all in world, they have to be mean to equal out? |

Join in the discussions if you like. Don't let it get you down. Doom and gloom posters are always a part of an online community (I and a fellow moderator have to keep watching one of our friends closely on our mailing list, he sometimes becomes a D&G). D&G is all over ... check your friends, check your family ... I'm sure you'll see a lot.
![]() I do feel that SL could use something new in it, haven't figured out what, but as it stands there's a lot for everyone. _____________________

Oh hun! I'm prolly newer than you and I'm having a great time in SL! There's so much to explore (and in some cases avoid! LOL) and experience out here. I t is such an incredible microcosm and It doesn't take much to have fun!
I was like, minutes, off the Help Island and was trying to figure out what to do and a guy came up to me and suggested I check out the Elbow Room. I went there and it so rocked! I use it as my home and go around checking things out - and people are so cool and helpful. I mean people just gave me money when I told them I was new! And the forums. Well, I'm on a bunch of forums and there are more "pickles" here than almost any other forum I share! I mean WOW! The thing that really tickles me is the ones who get on here and demand the Lindens do something about an issue - like those folks are out in the forums reading the hundreds of postings here! LOL! Anyway, this place is cool, the forums are a great place to get a good dose of drama. Play on hun! |

...respected veteran players leaving and the apparant disregard of players from LL staff sure makes it hard for a new player to be optimistic and encouraged about the future. Actually, for those same reasons, it's getting pretty depressing for old players too. _____________________

i think they need stuff that isn't giving out lindens, and that aren't sex shops.. how bout some plays, some real community? For myself, I'm pretty happy creating stuff. I also attended my first party last night (Sio's R-Day) and I remembered what makes parties great is not the party but the company. Got to meet a lot of the nice people from the forums there. Sio got me to actually dance in-world ... so, that's a feat in itself. I keep to myself most of the time I'm in-world. As for new stuff part of our problem is that we are limited to sight and sound, and that our avatar movements are not as expressive. This might change when they introduce the puppeteer functions. Better physics and prim animation will also open up lots of new avenues. Imagine what just being able to rotate/revolve a prim smoothly about an arbitrary axis can do. _____________________

They make a nice newspaper if you don't mind moving a mountain of crap to find a penny, but don't let them get you down. Agreed. The only forum I've been in that has been this consistently negative was a forum specifically designed for complaining. And the problem even extends beyond how things are being said; even if people weren't so snippy, the forum would still be nothing but a litany of complaints. _____________________

I know forums can be a cess pool of angst but heck the negative feeling around here are pretty depressing. The forums have always been the amplified fears and gloom feelings of a small minority of players. They're not to be taken at face value, because they're mostly sensationalist. The Lindens remain, for all their faults, some of the more responsive developers I've seen in an online space. _____________________

Since the large-script-edit-slowdown bug is not yet fixed I turned to avatar making. Sio and the guys got to see my new leprechaun avi. Did some more work on him today and it looks sooo coool. Brace yourself FurNation ... if inspiration keeps biting me, this non-furry will have an avi that will qualify as a furry. ... But I remain non-furry at any rate. _____________________

Me, Tao, and Lordfly dancing in air was to me too surreal also. It was really a thrill last night to put faces on so many of my favorite forum people for the first time. _____________________
