From: Torley Torgeson The way I see it, it's like... think of a mountain climber with a really big toolbag. All sortsa good schtuff. And part of the tools have fallen out—whelp, that's the 1.6 things we miss. So he has to carefully climb back down, without falling off the perilous slope to his death, retrieve those tools and bring them back UP the mountain, as he continues on his progressive trek o' excellence and plants the 1.7 flag FIRMLY into the snow-ice hybrid. Using those tools. I love this analogy! I hope it works out that way. coco

From: DogSpot Boxer Doc: See door to the SL exit? Walk toward door Open door Walk thru door Close door No more issues. Didn't I read that you left the mainland for renter's paradise? I've stuck it out on the mainland owning a good size chunk of two sims. I may not be able to buy my view like people who have bailed on the mainland in favor of their own private islands, but I'm liking part of my view because of Doc. How about if you show your old neighbors on the mainland the door and lay off from encouraging mine to take Philip's tier money and hit the road? I may seem to be a detractor to those patting themselves on the back as magnanimous LL supporters and grand visionaries. Realize that the people I see having issues are ones that have contributed to making SL a pretty cool place.

From: Selador Cellardoor It amazes me that otherwise intelligent people still say this. To be honest, Selador, I really don't care much about SL these days. So it finding well, amusing, that people get so wrapped up with it. And let's face it, bitching and moaning here on the forums doesn't mean anything. It's just bitching and moaning. Myself included.

MO, there are a lot of people who are too, dunno, invested, both financially and emotionally in SL. And WTF is this thin ice business? Is that some sort of warning?

In case you weren't aware of it, there are acceptable standards of behaviour in these forums - and you may be in danger of overstepping the mark, both in the content of your posts and by repeatedly popping up in threads I start with the same monotonous message.
You should remember I don't have to, indeed won't, complain. The forum moderator is perfectly capable of acting autonomously should they see fit.

I'm not violating any standards, Doc. Except in your fertile imagination. I'm allowed to post in your threads, regardless off my so-called "message". I haven't made any personal insults either. And, you are also free to put me on ignore. If my few mild posts in your complaint threads (and let's be honest, that's the only type of thread you start) is your definition of "skating on thin ice" then I'm glad you've not got your finger on the forumer moderation button. But please, feel free to AR me. You know where the bad post icon (and the door) is.

This is what I feel like I see when I see the back and forth bickering that goes on in the forums. Change names accordingly...

You persistently show up in threads I start, complaining that I dare comment about the standards LL run SL to. You deliberately attempt to provoke me and have the BRASS NERVE to tell ME to leave SL! What do you think you are, some sort of protector of LL, who runs off people who aren't satisfied with the service? I'll damned well complain where, when and how I like in these forums, where, as far as I'm aware complaints haven't been banned - though trolling should be - and it'll take more than you to stop me. Now, there's enough to AR *ME*. Go for it - worm. The truth is the only argument YOU have is 'if you don't like it - get out'. Well I'm not - now curl up and die because you have succeded in something (probably a first for you!). I'm annoyed. OK? Happy now?

Who the hell am I? I'm just another paying customer of LL. What I am not is someone who put's much investment into something that could be gone tomorrow with no way to recoup my investment. From: someone The truth is the only argument YOU have is 'if you don't like it - get out'. Well I'm not - now curl up and die because you have succeded in something (probably a first for you!). I'm annoyed. You don't get it, do you? If I were as unhappy as you clearly are with SL now, I'd get the f*ck out. What is the point in continuing to beat one's head against wall over something like SL. LL could close it's doors tomorrow and we'd all be screwed. Which is _exactly_ why I personally refuse to make any more investment in SL than I would in any entertainment I get. Life it too short to have a heart attack over LL's alleged shortcomings.

Anyway, now seems like a good time to discuss Thingy1 from post #6 in this thread, doesn't it?

I'm sorry to hear it. But I would suggest sticking with it rather than leaving. You might find that you regain your interest. I think all of us go through patches where we ask ourselves why we are here. But you will find there is always plenty to put in the 'Pro' column.

I don't have a lot of financial investment in second life (although I have over the years paid Linen Labs a fair amount of money) but I certainly do have an emotional investment. Like many people here, when second life goes down I feel very upset and disturbed until it is back up again. Is that a bad thing? I don't know. If my local golf course closed down I would be upset and disturbed. SL to me is one of the good things of life, and as such I have an emotional investment in it. Seems eminently natural to me.

I'm one of the useless people who don't sell anything. I make plenty of things but being the selfish bitch I am, they're all just for myself (not that anyone would buy them). I like to build. Pre 1.7 I could build for hours upon hours without having to reboot. I never crashed. Everything was smooth as whipped cream, hmmmmm beautiful! I used to go dancing maybe once a month, just so I could wear all the clothes I loved to buy (and make).
Now I crash at least every 10 minutes. Building has become pretty much impossible, unless I "hurry up and get with it". Once the golden 3 minutes are up, building is out because the game becomes so jerky I can't match up walls even by the numbers. The number pad thingy stops working, I can't type in a decimal at all. Walls start moving back and forth...and back and forth, all on their own.
Texturizing a building? Yeah, sure......... every wall turns into a gray soup that doesn't rez for guess.....5 - 7 minutes. My textures are all 256 x 256. Some 512 x 512 but few of them.
Changing clothes is a joke, I might just as well go everywhere naked. I've timed it. It takes from 7 - 10 minutes for a new set of clothes to rez. I've gone basic. No attachments. No difference.
Shopping is impossible. Textures don't rez. The images in the vendors are invisible for a long, LONG Time.
Exploring? Forget it, there's nothing to see for about 10 minutes.
I've gone from a $190 something tier to a $125 tier and I'm now down to the $40 tier. I don't really know what I'm paying $40 for..... I haven't been on more than a couple of hours since 1.7 improvements. I just sold another piece of land, next week I'll maybe sell another.
I use SL for relaxation. I have a lot of stress to release. Now all I do is get stressed out more. My premium fee is paid until June of 2006, UNFORTUNATELY.
I used to love SL, couldn't get enough of it. Lived in world every waking hour I wasn't working in RL (well yes, sometimes I had to sleep because I was slipping off the chair). Have I lost interest? NO. I just can't afford the added stress of not being able to do what I love doing.
I know that nobody gives one way or the other, but SL is about to lose me, because I'm at the end of my patience.

Seems eminently natural to me. Passion for anything is much better than passion for nothing If it were not for the hard core gamer a lot of great games would never of hit the big time. I myself have been known to of played sl and other games 14 hours straight and then some lol . Building in SL is just not as easy or fun or smooth as it was so I went and got a job with "..." game development team They tend to like ppl who are hard core players. Trust me folks do not bash the hard core players they are the ones who end up writing the walkthrews, they find the easter eggs, they have learned much and are an asset. "So today I made this hardcore player feel bad for spending all their time in a fake world" My reply to that is; It must be nice to sit in judgement of others, not having a clue about their rl. Some ppl are handicaped and things like sl are their connection to the outside world. Where they can walk normaly talk normaly or pretend to be a bird if they want. Others need to fill their time so their mind doesn't wonder about a loved one in a hostile county. While others have a need to fill a creative side of themselves. Yup I'm all of the above. Ppl really need to stop being everyones nanny. Worry about your selves, life is way to short to be in everyone elses business. Mar

Of the many supposed "fixes" and "improvements" the latest patch has introduced, the most rewarding to myself would be the fact that i'm able to actually log in with lack of crashing soon after. Before the patch, I would crash randomly, when I zoom, move, or pan my camera angle. I was speculating it was caused by compatibility issues concerning my video card (Radeon Mobility). I've also failed miserably in the search for it's most updated driver, or -any- for that matter. But, magically, after the newest patch was released, i've never had another crash since. So ultimately, I can't complain.
