Be prepared to be very annoyed and stressed out! Flipper and I arrived safe and sound in San Fran yesterday. However, the experience was less than savory. The security check point was the fastest and most efficient part of our journey and that is saying something.

Some airlines (US Air in particular) have been having troubles since the heightened security level and new restrictions with baggage being misplaced. There were two US Air flights that left Philadelphia yesterday in the morning. The luggage from flight 41 ended up on flight 29 and vice versa in addition to flight 15 (a flight from the previous day) luggage as well. In the end, our luggage as well as 15-20 other peoples luggage from our flight was elsewhere but not at the San Fran airport. After two hours of rigamarole, we were informed our luggage would be delivered to us later in the evening. Well, now it is supposed to be delivered between 1 and 3pm today. We were told this has been happening a lot in the past few days.

My word of advice, bring a change of clothing and any valuables in your carry on luggage. Unfortunately our carry on comprised of our laptops and projector and my purse. So i had to pack all of my jewelry and my expensive camera in with our luggage.

Regards,
Jennyfur

Philadelphia's Airport is legendary in its ineptness as is US Air in general. I think we will be flying out of Newark from now on despite the hour and a half drive. I just wanna make sure that people know since we will have hundreds of people flying in from around the world.

yea Newark is a great airport I flown out of there many times although this time I'm flying out of Kennedy in to Oakland.

and yes its important to get the word out to as many folks as possible of the potential problems that are occurring because of the current state of security at airports. Thanks to your original post i will be packing a few things with my lap top. Just in case.

Yea, i'm not looking forward to it. Good to hear Newark is a good airport, because that is where I have to change planes.

Toiletries are easy to come by. Extra clothes and other essentials are not especially if they are valuable and/or sentimental or irreplacable.

Newark is pretty nice. We fly out of there to the UK now.

I've never flown through O'Hare (Chicago) without experiencing delays or flight cancelations. Bring a pair of underwear and a tooth brush if your plans include a stopover at that airport. Have a great time at SLCC guys! Wish i could have made it. :)

I'm coming in on Thursday via. Newark. Being in the UK, I don't have the option of bringing a change of clothes with me as we've got tighter restrictions on what can be carried on so I'm living in hope that my luggage, including laptop, don't end up in Cairo or something otherwise I'll be well and truly stuffed :)

Mind you, having said that, I'm going to be ringing Continental tomorrow as I've only got an hour and a half between connecting flights in Newark and something tells me that that's asking for trouble. Supposed to get into SF at 6pm on Thursday but I really doubt that's going to be the case :)

Newark is a pretty decent airport you'll probably have less problems there than with other clusterfuck airports like Philadelphia, Chicago O'Hare and Atlanta.

personally, i always do what i can to fly out of Atlantic City. a long security line there is like a short one at Newark.. and i've never flown out of Philly.. and don't plan to either. hehe..

AC is great though.. parking is easy, check-in/security is easy and there are only about 4 gates there.. super small and never all that packed.

granted, i have a lay-over in Detroit.. so that might get a bit crazy.

on the other hand, i plan on bringing one bag and a carry-on at that. although i'm wondering if i'll be allowed to bring my digital camera with me or not. anyone know if digital cameras are allowed onboard?

Philly's not that bad.

Okay, well, yes, it is bad. But it's no worse than lots of other airports. Just because it has an utterly illogical design, it's impossible to find where you want to go, the shops are crap, the staff don't care... what differentiates that from anywhere else?

I took mine in my carry on (along with my laptop and other digitalia I didn't want to risk) and had no problems. Just make sure you take it out of your carryon before they start searching through your bag, tell them what it is and that its digital, and you should be ok.

I didn't have any problems with my camera being onboard.

I am also transfering through Newark and on Continental flying out Thursday but am coming in for 11PM.. which, if you somehow miss your connection will probably end up on that flight.

Frans Charming also is transfering in Newark that day and on Continental and has the earlier flight.. so I think you both should be on the same plane. Look for the thin Dutchman. We are meeting up in the airport for when I get in...IM us if you want to join up with us. We have a native to the San Fran area SLer picking us up!

So what makes you the one who knows all about all airports?

You do realize how foolish this makes you look yes? Please restrict this to your special SLCC thread ok?
