After having my security question not work at all tonight, even as I knew I had the right answer, I was finally just able to reset my PW.. they have other questions available now, and I was able to get my info reset. Thank you, LL, for that. Of course I think those still with invalid emails are going to have a problem, and that's too bad..

after having sent several requests I've still not received anything at all in my email,I can't get in to answer any security questions, just keep getting sent to the send request.
This issue has been handled in a very amatuer way. |

Well, actually, if you look at the bottom of the password change request screen, there is now an option for people whose emails are no longer valid..
Immature, probably, but I got my stuff back after these issues, and I'm in. _____________________

I'm a bit concerned about the "Click here" to get to the reset password page without having to check your email at all.
Wouldn't the home sim of some people be a little obvious? Perhaps someone who owns a particular sim, or a regular resident of an area? And what of the last billed amount, what about people with accounts that have never been charged or can't be (no payment info)? Enter 0 and you're in? I just think in some situations, anyone could go type your name in, click the link, and might know the answer to these. I understand, in some cases people can't get to the email address they registered with.. but... with being able to simply click that link, I think it might make it too easy to change others' passwords, depending.. |

Meow! I'm so happy!
I was mad yesterday, but I have to say LL handled this situation great. Some less responsible companies would've just ignored the problem and responded to anyone who got hacked by "never give out your password to anyone" or "you're imagining things". They were willing to take some heat for it, and that made them grow a little bit in my eyes ![]() |

Well I have not received an email and if I follow the link its says to phone them.
As I am in Africa that’s not likely to happen. Fortunately I have email contact with the people in SL that I am closest too, but I guess its goodbye SL for me now ![]() |

Hm.. Mostly when I would do the "click here" thing, it would usually go ahead and let me see my questions without having to check my email. So I'm not sure what to think. Maybe it saw I had some cookies left over from before.. or something..?
Still.. I am glad for the new questions, since I couldn't remember my security question answer. |

If you need to phone them, use Skype - you can call out to US 800 numbers for free from your PC (presuming you've got a headset / mic available).

As far as I can tell, that "Email no longer active?" button isn't there any more.
I actually DID get the email, but the link contained within didn't work. Hrrm. |

I managed to change my password with the new methods but I still can't login though. Is there a long delay after the password change until it is active?

I don't really appreciate being forced to change my password but then I suppose it's better than having my account hacked... that would suck...

Are any new methods not involving email available
09-09-2006 04:55
All I see is the original password request page requiring a valid email. Many I know in SL no longer have the original email used to sign up.

Well, well....let's see:
I never got the e-mail for my main account. So my main avi can't change the password. My alt did get the e-mail but - I can't remember the first name of 2 of the avi's i'm supposed to identify. Great idea, this one. What do people do who have tons of friends that have accumulated over the last 4 years and whose first names they don't remember? Beats me.... I've cancelled both cards, my land fee will remain unpaid and the land will go public. I guess SL has lost 2 paying members, my main and my alt. Good going. _____________________

When did that link work Desire?

I'd be interested to know how long ago you used that link to change your password. It still shows me the Call Us page.

New methods worked. Back in. ^^
And despite the previous fuckup I just feel love for LL now. This is kind of like Stockholm Syndrome. |

Funny comment but I feel the same way I was very concerned last night wondering how could I get my secret question (I can’t phone them); but I saw that in the middle of the night they put this thing I just had to work a bit and I’m in again. |

I managed to change my password with the new methods but I still can't login though. Is there a long delay after the password change until it is active? I got something about "verifying protocol," but I got in by changing the place I was logging in to from "Home" to "last place" (which was actually at home). Or you can put in a different region altogether. Hope this works for you if you still haven't gotten in, or helps anyone else having the same problem. coco _____________________

The new validation methods are insane. If you know an avatar's home location or tier you can take over the account in a minute right now.
Unless I'm missing something, which I hope. |
