Is anyone else observing what's happening with Time Dilation ?

Being 1024m up in the air doesn't make a difference when the simulator itself is lagging, which is what time dilation measures.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's noticed it. SEems to go up and down at fairly random intervals.

Of course, we won't be able to get a reproduction for a Linden due to its randomness and short interval, so we'll be stuck with it until at least January of 2008.

I've noted a corralation in Cladbleck: when TD drops, Images Time is way up, and an av has just teleported into the region.

I can sit on the roof of my pilot's lounge and see our land's landing point and the landing points of the nearby parcels - helping me make this observation.

Anyone else?

Yes, it seems to be related to AVs entering the sim. We have these crippling high image times since 1.7 (remember when it used to kill telehub sims?) ... oh well, another "forever bug" to the list.

Yes. Same problem when an agent walks/flies across a sim boundary. TD in the destination sim dips. Lots of people doing this, and it really dips.

And yes - Images time goes thru the roof.

Because the Shelter is split between two sims - sim crossings for us are a regular occurance.

I bug reported this exact behavior a while back - but it went nowhere. I posted about it here:

I have not been able to cross a sim boundary without a 30-second rubberband trip into limbo for the last several days. Seriously, not one boundary that I can remember, and I'd have been dancing for joy if there was one.

I always have the "view boundaries" setting on because I like to see who owns what and what land is for sale, and every time I cross a sim or region boundary it's time to go grab another soda.

WTF!?!?! SL is damned near unusable right now.

And although everyone is reporting the *effects* of time dilation grid-wide, you think maybe we don't know the difference? ;)

I am currently 723m in the air in a region that has at most three people in it (according to the map), and I'm getting TD 0.63 or roundabouts

Even one week ago this area never got below the .9 range. WTF?!?!?

I was in a sim that was up for auction when it begain to slow. I tried to walk but it was too slow, I could not get out. I tried to TP, but the TP hung. After about 40 seconds, it went back to normal. Also, in my sim that I have land in, it also lags for no reason. It's only me in the sim, which is very empty, then all of the sudden it slows and I cannot even walk. I've reported it 2 times to on-duty Lindens, all they did was reset it, which did not work. I've told them that resetting it doesn't work, but they still do it. :(

Well thank goodness for LL that we won't be able to publicly complain about stuff like this soon with the forums going down.

I've been seeing lots of random dilation in the last few days -- rebooting a sim seems to stop it; but then it comes back a few hours later in another different sim.

I assumed it was related to the rolling updates; but it looks like that might not be the case now, since they have stopped.

FWIW, I spent a while yesterday checking out the new void sims added to the Valleys group of sims and noticed apalling low time dilation (averaging around TD = 0.20) even when I was the only one in any of those sims. Curiously relogging seemed to help, but only for a few minutes before the bad old pot-o-glue phenomenon set in again. Also, the 'rubberband' skidding across sim boundaries was pretty bad, too. I've found than crossing a sim boundary at anything faster than a slow walk seems to suffer from that problem. I guess that puts paid to any aerobatics and dogfights up in the sky these days. It would seem that something has changed server side at LL. I hope they manage to get it fixed soon.

I must agree here. Same "random" lows in TD, same effect when agents tp in (and out?), same molasses... and most often as low TD as on server backups (which I believe take place once every hour and is bad enough, but NICE in case of a rollback. Once per hour is my limit though lol.)

Tried the restarting. Sure it helps. But only till the server starts filling up again... Even tried keeping the island closed. An hour passed by, and nada. Was fine.

Odd though..... haven't noticed it happening in Aditi at all. But then again - hardly ANYone tp's in there on the same scale.. doh.

Asset servers again?

My Observarions on Dragon Isle since last weeks update.

AV lands on the island.
Pending Downloads goes up.
TD drops horribly.

I haven't watched images time will try to get a look at that tonight.

A reset of the island seems to have taken care of about half of the problem. TD still drops with the pending download but it isn't quite so horrible.

Memory leak on the server side maybe?

It's a side effect of slow texture rezing, An AV shows up and the sim desperately attempts to load the textures of everything in 'sight'.

Three possible causes:
  1. The incoming AV's client isn't handling texture loading properly.
  2. The sim is struggling to grab the textures from the asset server.
  3. The inevitable increase in usage of high end graphics cards (which the performance of SL virtually mandates) is resulting in people running higher draw distances.
My opinion only, but they fit the observed effects rather well I think?

hehe. I thought the time dilation occilating between .05 and .99 was just a problem in the sim I live in. Note that I was on a lot last week and I know for a fact that this problem only started after Wednesday's update.

I had Ethan Linden look at it Friday morning and he restarted the sim. The occilatation improved for a little bit (maybe an hour or 2) but by Friday evening the problem was back. I then had Stephen Linden look at it and he pointed out some scripts in the sim that were top killers and I worked with my neighbors and got them deleted. He also restarted the sim and the time dilation problem went away for about 3 or 4 hours.

Everyone needs to bug report the occilation issue on time dilation if we want to get it fixed.

thanks,

Never seen this before, but things are Unrezzing or Derezzing whatever the correct term is. And I am having to restart the game after about an hour or so online. This is just been getting worse the past week.

Several Lindens have been generously helping me and my situation. A few times pointing out a script or two (I promptly remove) to help, then usually restart the region.

I thought all along it was my computer or the new stores in our mall (we have the whole sim). I did notice zero problems on island sims.

It may be a memory leak from the new upgrade??

Same here!! I was going to post on the tech help soon. I, I think like you, get very lagg after an hour-ish online. After I restart the game, it's fine again. This is getting very annoying. I've also had my packet loss go way up, about 10%! I know that's probably on my side, but I didn't change anything to make it go up.

Just chiming in to say that I have been experiencing this horrible Time Dilation for the last week or so - in the Bembecia sim. TD is ranging from .3 to .8 almost all the time. Once every few minutes it is back to .99 but quickly dips again.

The low TD seems to be coupled with a low Physics FPS - even though I am alone in the Sim and there don't seem to be a large amount of physics enabled objects. The Sim Time (Physics) stays very low even when the Physics FPS shoots up. ALso the Images Time may shoot up - over 200 ms at times.

I really hope that this is a known issue and that LL is working on a fix. Hard to build ot even move whil covered with this virtual molasses.

My packet loss is a fairly constant thing nowadays - meaning it pops up WAY more than it used to - as opposed to a couple of weeks ago. I asked about that on SC.

But, I'm not going to worry much about worry about any of this, as I'm sure they will say it is on my end, and anyway, I don't think fixing any of it is really on their priority list. Besides, it's all too technical for me in the first place. If y'all can't talk this out with them, then I'm just not gonna worry about it. If it gets bad enough, I'll just stop playing.

I am the only person in the sim I am on.
I am getting .34, .39, .23 at times.
Stays at .99 normally.. but these numbers are nuts for the sim I am on.

Maybe after tomorrow's monkey wrench I can expect .10 at times?
