From: LewisBlack Moore "Voices" used only once - "voice" singular used only once. "Muted cacaphony" is a juxtaposition, not an oxymoron. "slowly silenced noise" simply isn't an oxymoron.
No parallelism was sought or needed. Your allusion to a "banal passive-aggressive attack on regular posters" is presumptuous of any sort of care regarding the forums' existence, of which there is none, beyond a sort of low scatalogical humor - on the order of watching someone else's infant flinging poo.
The sort of pathetic attempt this represents at what must be presumed to pass for wit or creative criticism is distressingly familiar among your stream of offering in these forums - so I offer my faint praise for consistency.
Sorry indeed.
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!! your post is distilling my hemorrhoids, please stop. Troy

From: LewisBlack Moore "Muted cacaphony" is a juxtaposition, not an oxymoron. Ulrika has demonstrated how to spell the word - why do you continue to spell it incorrectly? A 'cacophony' is a loud or strident noise. Therefore I think she is justified in describing the phrase 'muted cacophony' as an oxymoron. Nice to go out on a grammar posting.

I'd say this was hot, but in another thread I was ripped apart by an angry Canadian about how I offer no value to the forum now. So I can't.

Torley works for LL. What do you expect? I seriously doubt it's within Torley's power, as a single individual, to change the direction LL is headed, regardless of what she would prefer to do. And at the end of the day, what do you expect Torley to do? Say, "That's it! I QUIT!" and march out of the office into unemployment? Denounce LL's actions publicly and get fired? Hey, if I worked for LL, I wouldn't be voicing my opinions about them now. On the other hand, if they extended a job offer to me now, I think perhaps I would turn it down. Given the direction they're taking, I dont know how my method of handling customers could be of any value to them.

Denounce LL's actions publicly and get fired? Yeah, I do. That's what integrity is. It's standing up for what you feel in your heart to be true whatever the cost. That's something respectable. If Torley were to say "Yeah, they've fucked up big time, I'm sorry guys" instead of this insulting, condescending doubletalk then he'd have my respect again. As it is I think even less of him for what he's done, because he allowed the adoration he'd amassed to be corrupted thoroughly in the attempt to control us. Whether he agrees or has any power to change the forum closure etc or not is irrelevant. He's not trying to stop it. Which is just as bad as actively moving it forward.

Hey, I'm a big fan of honesty and saying what you mean, but I also know that only a fool bites the hand that feeds her. Torley works for LL. Torley can't just say whatever Torley feels like saying about LL, or Torley might not be eating next week. Common sense.

In NY state recently we had a vote come up in the supreme court about whether or not gay marriage should be allowed. it was voted down and a rally was prepared to protest against it. the industry I work at is very gay-friendly so I passed an email around the office notifying my coworkers of the protest and inviting them along. the president of the company personally replied to me that my viewpoint was inappropriate to the company and I should apologise for sending the email out. I refused and left my job that afternoon. while I realize the situations are different, there's nothing stoping torley from getting another job if he stood up to them. and if he stood up to them I'm sure there are a large number of residents here who'd be more than willing to donate some such things if he was fired. it's all meaningless anyway since he lacks the balls.

Situations are different. How much money do you happen to have on hand? Me personally? I live hand to mouth. I can't afford to take a stand. It's not that I lack the courage -- it's that I get to choose between that and eating. Now if you happen to have a big ol' bank account and are just going to have to give up buying your third SUV, sure, maybe you can afford to do it. Some of us aren't so fortunate.

I certainly took a hit for a few weeks until I found another job. I don't live in the lap of luxury either.

Sorry indeed. Now this. This I found delightful and exceptional -- something I myself would write. You get tickles!

I wish I were as committed but I am a slave to the corporate machine. Babies to feed, you know.

From: Joshua Nightshade ... and fewer servers running the game, I believe, and their system is relatively stable ...
Let's not spread this situation any thinner then it needs to be, this has nothing to do with technical matters. This is simply a matter of of a company growing into a business model and philsophy that relegates users and community building to "third party opportunities". The Second Life community as we know it is a thing of the past, or soon will. It will be up to the incoming large scale platform adopters who have the desire and resources to take up the mantle to create a centralized community portal based on the platform which LL provides. For those of you who claim that Second Life is not a platform ... beware! LL intends to be a virtual world OEM and will probably attempt to make the transition before any of us are ready - even themselves.
