From: Lewis Nerd In my store, I've created a 'stereo', which comes with a station change script that is editable, so people can choose preset stations. It's decorated with a few textures and suchlike so it looks realistic, rather than just a box with a function. I get far more satisfaction from someone spending L$75 buying one than I would from gaining L$75 for spending 4 1/2 hours sitting in a camping chair, with my pet rock playing the game.
I get the feeling that a lot of the people in the camping chairs would feel the same way. Although it's worth remembering that no matter what you do in SL, you can always camp as well. Anshe Chung could sit in a camping chair while she slept and she'd have more money as a result than she otherwise would have had. (Hey, maybe they should get all the Linden accounts to sit in camping chairs when not in use - they'd basically be reclaiming the dwell money and sinking it, but from what I've seen here folks don't seem to think that's a bad thing..) But many of them are learning to make stuff, or trying to think of stuff to make, or feel they can't make stuff because there's too much competition. You can say "you won't achieve anything without imagination" or "life isn't fair" if you like, but you'll need to be reminded that they are happy in their camping chairs - you're the one complaining...

*sigh* OMG Here let me spell it out. And this is the last thing I post here on this topic. L$5 per 10 minutes = L$30 an hour. L$30 x 5 accounts = L$150 an hour. L$150 x 24 hours = L$3600 a day. L$3600 = $13.10 USD (selling at current price of L$265/$1) $13.10 USD x 7 days = $91.70 USD a week. $91.70 x 4 weeks = $366.80 per month. Dunno about you guys but that is 1/4 of my monthly paycheck for my real job. I don't make much but I don't need that extrea money to survive either. I know one thing, it sure as heck helps me out. Power? My power bill is at max $200 a month and has been the same even before I got to SL. A few extra computers which I have on all the time anyway is not that big a deal. Some people even get utilities free. (Appartments) It is possible to double that $366.80 to $733.60 with 10 accounts. (10 accounts legally if you use a second household address, or business, which I do not do but this is possible. Although there might be changes in the TOS that stop that now.) Alternative? If I was really worried about power. I can use something called a virtual desktop and run all 5 accounts on one computer. 10 accounts on 2 computers probably. Five is the max I can do on one because it lags down bad. And I simply refuse to put money toward something like money seats by getting more RAM for the computer. So I use my other computers since they are on anyway for rendering tasks over a local network we have. Anyway, I mean give me a break people, It's simple math. I have already cashed out twice. So I know I make money on it. The fee for the transactions its a few $ off then the paypal transfer is $1. So I count it at $350 and usualy come out ahead anyway depending on the current price L$ sells at. I KNOW I make money at it. I see it in my pocket. Anyway, I kinda like this idea that so many think its worthless. More chairs for us people who can use the extra gas money. Addition: By the way I think the idea's you all had about using campers av's for target practice, or anything else like that, is awsome. LOL Wouldn't bother me anyway.

Eh, if people wanna camp - let them camp - if people wanna pay them to camp - let them pay ... it doesn't really effect the people who don't wanna that much.
If someone wants to set up a lil computer farm with 18 campers and someone wants to pay them to do that - let em!
I think its funny - people gaming the people gaming the dwell/traffic system - think about it, its hysterical.
Eventually something will probably break down - it its not profitable for both parties then it will die a natural death of its own accord...
- Personally I really dig Chip's idea and am seriously thinking of the 'Dwellnor Shakespearian Players Theatre'
If only for the laugh of it - if I have the time I may become my new pet project.

From: Sean Martin I can use something called a virtual desktop and run all 5 accounts on one computer. You don't need to use a virtual desktop, no additional software is needed at all. Just use the -multiple switch and you can run 5 accounts on one machine with no problem. You may want to turn the draw to 64, let the far clipping do it's thing, no shadows, no local lighting, no audio, no nuttin'!

I'm curious, how would someone set that up anyway? Is that where people use the AutoIt program to send key commands to each instance of SL that runs in the background? I might have heard about it somewhere in the forums if thats the one. But I'm not certain. I never had to look into that type of thing really. Sounds good unless AutoIt is shareware or something with loads of spyware. (Not that it couldn't be cleaned with the right tools. But the paying for a simple program, that a semi tech savvy kid could make in his parents basement, is what I don't like.)But indeed cool none the less. (I know I said I wouldn't post again on here but ) Edit: Oh no additional software needed. Didn't see that part. Now I'm intrigued.

From: Sean Martin Edit: Oh no additional software needed. Didn't see that part. Now I'm intrigued. No software needed to run multiple accounts at once. To keep the timeout from kicking in one would have to supply keystrokes or mouseclicks with extra software, so my statement about extra software was a bit misleading. Although one might be able to put a weight on both the Alt and Tab keys and spin the mouse ball with a Dremel tool. You might google "Rube Goldberg" for ideas in that vein. AutoIt is free and so far as I know free of spyware. AutoIt should not acquire a bad reputation from being associated with what some think of as a bad practice, camping for lindens. AutoIt is a powerful script language that can be used for operating programs through simulated keystrokes and mouseclicks when there is no other way to accomplish your goal. The -multiple switch is one of the command line switches for the secondlife.exe file, info on them is in the LSL wiki section on SecondLife.exe command arguments. These allow one to do such things as bypass the login screen, set port numbers to avoid conflicts when running SL on networked computers, and clear the cache everytime the program is started.

Running a computer is nothing if you keep the monitor turned off.

HAY JEFFREY GOMEZ READ THIS!!!!! SECRET SOURCE OF VAST WEALTH!!! ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE!!!!!!!!!! Hi Jeffrey, I got off my butt long enough to take the money out of some alts acounts to ease the counting process and parked their butts on some camp chairs. Got 'em all set up and sat down, started the AutoIt routine I wrote and have used several times - I don't actually do this except as a thing to do, I personally don't need the money, this is just a perverse way to pass the time, like going to the Edge to bask in the lag. Now I hadn't realized that this camp chair site requires you to stand up to collect, this is a big big factor affecting the automation of this process. So if something goes wrong, you don't get paid - but the landowner still gets the dwell and thus a chance at DI money, right? During the process of getting the avs sat properly I stood one or two up for some reason and collected then. Then I went to bed. During the night something went wrong, and I had been timed out on them for no reason I could see. They were getting their keypresses, so far as I could tell. Net result from 7 hours of too many camped avs - 60 lindens. Total. Not apiece. Just the ones I got during the setup process. Woo Hoo!!! Now I can quit work and go back to college !!!!!! My dreams of great wealth are realized at last, now I can stop sucking up to the FiC on #secondlife. And oh yeah , if I can find 'em still, I can get some more X-Ray specs and the super miniature spy camera too.

I can totally see an attachment that turn people into sexdolls when they are away in addition to the usual moneychair payment. You'd put that into your club for double benefit: - people present for the money -> traffic (halleluia). - people present for a bit of one-handed sexball action with the sexdolls (plus shy people wouldn't be affraid to do it, as the other person is not actually there).
It's a double win situation. And if you get sexdolls users to pay for they use it's double plus win !
