When the topic was at hand, I was fairly vocal against the idea of getting rid of Telehubs.

I was genuinely convinced that it would fundamentally upset the sense of place in SL, and worsen the zoning situation.

Since then, I've pretty much come around to the side of P2P. None of the things I was concerned about happening, happened - at least not to any major extent. P2P Teleporting is just way more convienient than the old way of getting around. It has created significant changes to the land market, but SL is all about change, right? ;)

I don't miss being forced to use the hubs. (Actually, I can't, normally; I live in Caledon, which has its own, to my occasional annoyance ... but on the mainland I don't miss them.)

I do miss seeing them around, though. I liked the design.

problem with ptp the sense of community is going away from SL. Soon SL will be just a group of bubbles which will become more and more isolated from each other as time passes.

That's inevitable with the growth of the grid. SL doesn't feel close-knit anymore, because it's NOT close-knit anymore ... it's too big. It has nothing to do with P2P; it happens in real life, too, as towns become cities and metropolises.

Given all the access restrictions, security orbs, griefers and other crud out there, I am quite happy not to be forced in most cases to fly from a telehub to my actual landmarked destination. I actually find it rather inconvenient that in places like Furmation Skymall and Serenity Woods I am forced to teleport to a specific point and then fly to where I want to go in the sim or on that particular parcel. I do fondly remember my early days in SL, gliding over new terrain and seeing what was between the telehub and some store I was seeking. Sometimes I would run into a tall structure that hadn't quite rezzed for me yet, but other times I found some truly interesting places along the way, that I never would have seen otherwise. But now, I just find the prospect of getting bounced around by a security script or trigger-happy resident to be too daunting. So I rarely do any travel other than direct PTP teleports.

On the other hand, I can see where some parcel or sim based teleport restrictions still make sense. For example, you can't TP directly to a location on Meeting Island unless you live there, without going through their entry point where they explain the rules for that sim. I guess it's similar for most of the Gorean sims, which force you to TP to a point where an explanation of the local rules is available. The large parcel where I have one of my homes has the default TP point set to the far side of a ridge from my house and the other homes. If you don't live in that parcel, you don't teleport right onto my front lawn just because you clicked there on the map.

But do I miss telehubs? No, not in the least.

Actually Ceera, we have a specific landing point in Serenity Woods for various reasons. For one we don't want people teleporting into the residents' homes/apartments when they themselves aren't residents. This is rude and if intentional is quite disrespectful to our residents. We also have an invisiprim on the teleport point to remind visitors we are a no combat sim and to give them quick access to our rules & sim info notecard dispensors. Finally another aspect many don't think about is it contains the griefer threat to one specific landing point during group raids preventing them from swarming us from all sides via PTP. So we have our reasons for having a spefic landing point. Plus everying is close by our landing point as its pretty close to the center of the sim so its not too much of an inconvienance to have to fly a whole 25m to the sandbox or 60m to the Serenity Market. The only real inconvienance I can think of is you can't teleport directly to our SkySandbox.

I don't mind telehub in zoned and themed areas. I live in one myself.

I don't miss them in the main grid. At all. :| And I also don't I miss being caught stuck in someone else's build or being bounced five sims back by those security orbs or shot at for just flying by by a bunch of red necks.

I also don't miss, having to not move for ten to fifteen minutes because of the lag inducing crap around the telehub. There's a hell lot I don't miss from the telehubs and a lot more reasons for me to enjoy P2P

I miss telehubs in sense that I never discover anything new anymore. Not as like a new shop or something maybe it was somebody's beautiful home or some crazy artistic representation of Homer Simpson. I never really minded the telehubs if I was in a real hurry I always had some sort of av booster to speed my way there.
