There was discussion of trying to persuade Leo Laporte into doing an audio discussion, no word on what came of it. I'd definately come in to see that. Ken Williams from Sierra. I think he'd have interesting input on SL. Arthur C Clarke. Of course I have to add him, since Asimov was mentioned. R A Salvatore (Forgotten Realms). Richard A Knaak (Diablo/Warcraft). Wies and Perrin (Dragonlance). Raymond E Feist (Midkemia/Riftwar). Leo Frankowski (Conrad / Time Travelling engineer). I'm missing a few in this genre I'm sure... Perhaps Tom Baker or one of the remaining actors from Dr Who, or even someone from B5 (I'm sure Jerry Doyle would probably find this a hoot).

just wanted to mention...

i agree with Jonquille,
Betsey Johnson - would be extremely interesting to hear her take on the fashion industry of SL... not to mention her thoughts on how some of the clothes are made, as in where patterns/textures originate.
-
and i'd like to also suggest:
Carlos Mencia - i believe his insight (plus comedic angle) would be both informative and useful. if you haven't seen his usual stand-up act on tv, then i suggest you try to see it. funny guy who also tries to instill tolerance and peace between the races of humanity. "beause sometimes.... sometimes..."
-
i was just wondering one other thing... has Hamlet seen this thread? he was the one to interview Harvey Smith (Deus-Ex), so maybe he could get something to happen with a couple of these guys?

Bruce Schneier Ron Rivest, Adi Shamir and Leonard Adelman Steve Wozniak
and I agree Kevin Mitnick would be a hoot.
Margaret Attwood is someone who I always wanted to be sitting next to on a long flight so that I could ask her about many of her stories.

LOL Larry Nivens pretty cool, but he's also a bit kooky. Last time I saw him was at a LASFA meeting last month. (LASFA is a sc fi type club in Los Angeles) I was there about 2 hours and the entire time, the entire time non-stop I was there, Niven was giving a back and neck rub to Jerry Pournelle. They both look like crazy old men with long scraggy beards.

From: blaze Spinnaker ... Gibson, well, because he's probably the most artistic of the crew, though technologically, the least sophisticated / original. I am glad I am not alone in *not* idolising this fellow. I have sen him in RL many times and he is dull, dull, dull. A one note, one hit wonder if there ever was one. IMO of course

From: Nolan Nash Niven is my all time fave Sci-Fi author, btw. Chip, are you reading this? Take that Tasp out of your skull you wire-head! Just a few more minutes! I'd second Niven and Jon Stewart. I also second (third?) Gibson being highly overrated. Other people I'd like to see... David Brin, Gregory Benford, Greg Bear, Dan Simmons

Hell I'd rather see Clifford Stoll than Gibson Personally if he were still alive I'd would have loved to think what Anthony Burgess would have thought of SL... or even just the forums Siggy.

Ok .. here's a question.
How would you go about *convincing* these famous people to do a town hall in SL?
I'd probably link to all the articles written about SL, talk about what SL can do for the world, and then try to play on their particular desire to see something like SL succeed.
How would you 'sell' it?

*RING RING* Hello, Steven Colbert? -- Hiya, I know where you can find a bunch of incestous drama queens that have a total disconnect with reality... I know how much you love f*cking with assclowns, and THESE jokers are right up your alley!

I can do little more than second the names already listen. With not, I will add that some time back I sent a little email along to Mr. Neil Gaiman requesting that he perhaps consider a visit to our humble abode, Second Life. We'll see what comes of it. =)
Oh, and... =) Black Sun

Well, Kim, you probably have more pull with Marketing Lindens then I do.
I'm pretty sure if I sent them an email to start contacting these people they'd probably just have a good laugh.

Comedy doesn't translate very well across national boundries. Town Halls shouldn't be exclusive - we don't need minor celebrities from anywhere thanks very much.
My list:
Linus Torvalds Richard Stallman (GNU - although I've heard conflicting reports on whether he's any good as a speaker or not) If SL is the new web then Tim Berners-Lee? If this is democractic collaboration then Jimbo Wales (Wikipedia)? Laurence Lessig (Creative Commons/EFF)
