ack ack O.o

that's pretty darn ugly - but at least you won't be getting hung up on some mall ceiling by a telehub
Seems like every post is the same...

"... don't like it, but if it helps with bumping into walls..."

Am I the only one who figured out how *not* to bump into telehub walls or something? Was it really the gigantic problem that needed to be fixed so bad that we have to resort to this?

I dont find it *horribly* ugly, but it's ugly enough given the very small "problem" it was instituted to fix. Also, lately there have been times when textures don't load for hours (if at all), if I have to stare at that stuff the whole time I might just log off again.

The logic behind it is pretty silly if you think about it. The system cannot give you a texture, so instead of showing that by having a blank space where the texture is, it gives you the "I cant find the texture texture?"???

I know the "blank" texture was the same thing really, but it made more sense logically/conceptualy speaking.

Hmm, I haven't seen it inworld but from the pics it looks like we took an aesthetic hit for a usability gain.

If folks have strong feelings about this they can propose having it be an option... like selecting our own texture-of-preference for the unrezzed texture. Have it be client-side. Then one could have a pink and green grid (or blue myst-like swirls) texture as a stand-in until the legit textures have downloaded.

I am not talking about the TELEHUB walls - I am talking about the huge builds that were not at all visible upon teleport arrival at the telehub. I normally do not wait around at a telehub for things to rez, I like to get where I am going. I fly up in the air and use my little arrow keys to go forward - all of a sudden BAM! there's a wall.. only there's nothing to see, no blurry to show the texture is loading, nothing. Just an invisible wall... so you turn around to go out.... Nothing major, but still a pain in the ass when it happens. Now that we'll be able to see that there is a build of some sort right in front of us (or above us, etc.), people will not be griping so much about that... just how ugly the default is :p

I pretty much hated the old texture on an aesthetic basis, so I regard this as an improvement. But I think it should be some color other than blah grey. Black, maybe. With colored lines.

Dunno, most the time I was bumping into things it was because the prims hadn't rezed yet, don't know if this new texture'll help me all that much.

You mean you haven't figured out how to avoid bumping into things yet, either? :D

Amusingly, it also shows up on the map. When you first open the map, before the mainland texture loads (if you zoom out and look) there's a big grey rectangle across half the map.

What really roasts my polygons is the fact that alpha textures now go completely opage when you hit ctrl alt t.
Holy Borg Invasion, Batman! That can't be an intended side effect... after all, the meny item is "Hilight Transparent", and turning transparent objects into red blocks is hardly a "hilight". It pretty much eliminates the usefulness of the feature. Hopefully they'll add a replacement "transparent hilight" texture instead of reusing the loading texture for the hilight.

Yeh, that's what I don't understand... I don't really get what problem this change is supposed to solve, because the problem of bumping into invisible objects doesn't seem to have anything to do with the default texture being too hard to see, but with it not showing up at all.

Textures are loading so fast for me now, that it's not that annoying.

And, really, look at the bright side. It's a plain grey texture. The Lindens could have easily introduced a new 'commercial free' pricing level and used a texture like the following...

:D

well, there it is, solid grey with white edges.

I liked the fog personally and always felt I could see the "smokey" buildings" just fine.

I'll have to see it myself to see how it behaves.

I really wish we could pick the "texture not loaded" texture, I'd put up pics of Tori Amos.
(though entering a tori amos poster shop might get confusing)

Is there a reason why this change was so sudden with no chance for customer feedback? Or was it based on a huge out cry of customer feedback?
