From: Vivianne Draper Forums can hardly be prepared to food. You don't need these forums to live. These forums are not anyone's livlihood. As a matter of fact, if you want to compare it to a money making venture, these forums cost LL the space to store the database and the cost of Torley's and Jeska's salaries -- just to name two costs right off the top of my head. Were this a farm, it would be more like pouring fertilizer and water into a fallow field which is rocky and produces poorly. Don't you see that responses like yours smell like shit and prove my point? Enough fertilizer, dirt, water, and sunshine and even a rocky field can produce. Ask the Israelis. Sorry - just having fun. You've missed my point, though. It has to do with creative fallout from the diversity of opinion, and the improvement of quality of life - not with the issues you've framed. And Lupus - you sound foolish.

I'm not trolling. I've never trolled here and I never will troll in moderated space. I think you folks saying fuck you to the Lindens for closing the forums are being pretty selfish. I think this is a sound business decision for them and lack of drama is good thing. Other game companies have closed their boards or gone without and still managed to keep in touch with their 'constituency' (as it were). DAOC is one example of this. Others have had boards and never been in touch in the first place. EQ is an example of this. In the first few years of UO there were not official boards and the devs participated actively on third party sites. In the entire time of NWN on AOL (yes I am showing my age) the boards were moderated with an iron fist and the only interaction that was had was with the moderators -- never with any AOL officials or game devs. This isn't the end of the world nor is there a clear-cut avenue for interaction with developers and game/platform companies. You don't seem to realize that the folks at LL actually DO want to make you happy. I mean they have their own goals in mind but but they don't sit around all the time trying to figure out ways to make their customers upset. They hired Torley in an attempt to become closer to the player experience. Honestly I think they've really bent over backwards to try and make everyone happy while still running a viable business and what they've received for thier troubles are slaps in the face all via boards that they maintain and moderate at considerable cost to their company. Yeah I'd close them down if I were them too. Even now what I'm hearing is "how am I going to yell at the Lindens when they do something stupid" and "omg how are we going to communicate with them when a patch screws everything up". Oh THERE's a good incentive for them to keep the boards open. So this isn't a troll. Its another point of view certainly and from the looks of it, an unpopular one. And I know how you all are about opposing points of view. Nonetheless I think they are doing the right thing. From: Lupus Delacroix Good job on the troll ^.^

From: someone IMHO the best way to make your displeasure heard is with the cash flow. Canceling my paid account before the payment date personally. They can't listen to us, why should I pay them?
This is where I regret paying a year in advance, but I can at least cancel my plans to buy land and pay extra tier. Going to have to go cold turkey on the LindeX too.

I bought land and upgraded my tier about 3 hours before the post. Whilst I do lament the - apparent - loss of any form of 'official' communication and forums, the forum is not the reason I play Second Life. The creativity available and the people I meet are the reasons I play, and they're both still there. Lewis

Lewis But you won't meet anywhere near as many interesting people with the forums gone.

I mainly use the forums to pass the time and for technical support. I'm not sure where to get technical support now, but I have other ways to pass the time

From: Zonax Delorean I've been in SL for over two years and the forums were a valuable resource and information source, a place to exchange ideas, etc. It's dumb shutting down the forums just because people bitch about bugs and system defeincies on it. Blogs are okay, but they're just not the same. I'm not going to see in a blog that this or that other person found the same bug as I, etc. This way the lkower ecehlons of Liasons/Live Helpoers can tell you you're the only one ahving a problem and there is no verification that hundreds are having the same isue. I think It's time I openned an SL forum. More to come.

From: Vivianne Draper Those can be recreated elsewhere Nimrod
I betcha Cris would do it on SL Universe and even agree to mod them a little so that it sticks to creation and not flames. Yay, Cris! One of the many who work to make SL something LL can be proud of! Not to mention sell off.

Quick someone run through the forums and grab the entire scripting library and any attached stuff or animations that might reside! Make a database before it's too late.

This thread is a wonderful example of why eliminating the "official" fora is a step in the right direction.

From: VolatileWhimsy Bu i don't, cause my voice works and so do my fingers and there are other mediums out there. other forums.. i still get to express and they have to hunt for the information they will need and take the risk of anyone wanting to invest finding something they wouldn't want them to.. gawd that sounds cryptic.. So, tell me. Are you a premium member or basic?
