What the hell is time dilation?
Time dilation is caused by moving near the speed of light, so that clocks slow down. In Second Life, when you're sitting there loading the textures in a new sim after a teleport, this only seems to happen...

Oh, you wanted a serious answer?

Time dilation is a measurement of how far off "real time" a sim is running. When there's alot of avatars, scripted objects, and physical objects in a sim it can be so busy it can't keep up with everything, so things start taking longer than real time, and you get "time dilation".

An eazy way to remember bad "time dilation" is:

BULLET TIME! (as in, from the Matrix)

Time Dilation is also when you post an answer to "what is time dilation", and your web browser hangs (I don't know what it was doing... knitting? vogon poetry?) so that by the time your response is posted three other people have already answered the same question. :p

Hmm... how is it you get the prims to all show up before their textures are loaded? For me the landscape is completely blank until the prims and textures start loading, both showing up at the same time...
