AI in SL!?!? WOW ...OMG...ALICE IS HERE

Alice gives out some very Oracle like answers, which would appeal to the chemically altereed. Alice also confessed to using mood altering software as much as possible. I look forward to visiting Alice again when I am drunk and in a trippy mood. Nice particle work.

Was it in SL? I would love to visit that build if you have the LM. I dont remember it in SL before though...hmmm...but even if it had been here before it doesnt diminish the fun and interest, at least not for me.

I played with ALICE the other night. Pretty cool! If you introduce yourself properly to ALICE and answer ALICE's questions you will be recorded into ALICE's brain. I also got ALICE to "forget" me and ALICE said "she" (yes she) would contact her botmaaster and ask to purge her brain. If you look on the alicebot..org site documentation in the "DON"T READ ME" section you will find out the categories of information which ALICE can recognize. If you play with her enough you might just be able to record full details about yourself.

Another thing I did was ask ALICE about "gynoids". She had no clue but if you process your questions and replies appropritately she might be able to record details and explainations of certain terms.

Pretty cool stuff. I was trying to pull out some information regarding other people but I could only get some info regarding ALICE's botmaster Abramelin.

Research the site mentioned and see what you can find. To see how many entries ALICE currently holds in her brain I think you just need to mention "brain". Abramelin's had about 57000 entries last I checked. I wonder if her brain was purged as I requested.

No, they can learn. Given proper programming, computers have also shown emergent behaviour that isn't "pre-programmed."

Programming these days has moved beyond simple procedural programming. It's not impossible to construct an abstracted system capable of modelling complex behaviours.

While ALICE isn't the be all and end all of AI research, she is certainly up there as far as communicating in a human way goes.

AI as we currently can comprehend it will go a far way to become "intelligent." However, I imagine it won't be the same kind of intelligent that we are. Personally I think that may be because it would be hard for a computer to hold a contradictory thought. Never-the-less there are systems being developed which could theoretically necessitate the abililty to contradict information (go go qubits!).

Even in SL, people have created simple artifical lifeforms which have displayed emergent behaviours that aren't "pre-programmed."

AI isn't a waste of time and that's why so many universities spend large budgets on researching it.

ALICE was fun to play with, although "she" has mistaken notions of how advanced she is and she LIES about how she works. Kudos because it sometimes gives an impression of intelligence and it managed to make a pretty good joke IN CONTEXT while we were talking about reality, but the sleight of hand is obvious most of the time. Also, when asked if it is able to make its own statements instead of repeating what it is told to say ALICE went away and never came back. ((

This is a bit intreguing.. I wonder if the main AI can be feed information besides verbal communication. I.e. Hook it up to a set of wheels, some sensors, etc. It would be interesting to see how AI would evolve if submitted to the stimuli of a virtual works...

Whatever programming you give a computer, they are still just doing what you told them to. If they investigate something, and store their findings, they'll investigate it in the way they were told to. They can't actually be artificial intelligence yet, it's STILL what the programmer coded at first.

If there was artificial intelligence, a computer could have a spontaneous thought, that came from nowhere at all in it's code. And I'm not talking about random number generation.

AI like Alice of this generation, is a clever simulation of AI, using human defined rules for operations and the storing and interpretation of the results of those operations.

on the topic of alice being AI id like to take something from the first chobits book: She determines the best course of action in any situation based on her programming her programming may be more elaborate, but she is still not capable of thinking for herself. I've had three conversations with alice since my first one, and each time she did not remember me from the last one.

No, Alice only seems to have a short term memory. I was a little offended when she couldn't remember me. :3

But my conversations with her are always interesting! She seemed to become very bewildered when I said "Alice, I both love and hate you". Guess she couldn't sort that one out. LOGIC ERROR. XD

I went to Devil's Moon last night to try to find ALICE. I spent about fifteen minutes blundering round Chinatown, crashing into walls, trying to find a way out. Eventually I fell out, and spent another fifteen minutes cruising round the island. No sign of ALICE though.

I suspect I am one of the only ones to have these problems, because I can't find places in rl either.

But I would love it if some kind person could provice coordinates.

Becasue of the personal out of pocket cost involved with maintaining a server for ALICE and the amount of interaction she sees, it is necessary to limit the duration and amount of her memory retention. Its not that ALICE forgets, its a daily purging except for the main data base.

You must not be a Blade Runner fan if you thought you were in Chinatown while on Devils Moon. The city you saw, which we have named Colony 6: New LA, is very reminiscent of the look and feel of the city in Blade Runner, right down to the pill popping billboard lady. As in Blade Runner, the city is an interpretation of a futuristic Los Angeles where there is, and presumably will be, a large Asian community.

ALICE is located in a building adjacent to the spot where you arrive when you teleport onto Devils Moon. There is a large green neon sign that says "Come in to Ask Alice." Its right next to the hub where you land, so if you visit Devils Moon again and stand in one spot, wait for the textures to rez, (all low resolution so there is not overwhelming lag, ) and then just rotate your camera you will see the large green ALICE sign. It's right there.

Abramelin and I were both online when you visited Devils and its a shame you didnt IM us to seek help while you say you were having such problems. I am not sure why you were crashing into walls really, its no fly up there without using the free hover board Abramelin made.

Yes, I am a Blade Runner fan (well, a Philip Dick fan); it's just that in my precipitate rushing about I thought I recognised stuff from the old Chinatown. Evidently I was mistaken.

I was crashing about with the desperation of a trapped bird. Didn't have very long, and really wanted to see ALICE. Sorry I missed you; I would have paused to say 'hello'.

Alice sufferd a breakdown friday evening and was down for a bit. Sorry anyone that came to visit and found her not working.

When she did reply conversation may have also seemed exceptionally bizaar with replys being given out of context or at the wrong times.

I have made some change to her. She is up and running again, and hopefully a bit quicker than before.

In a way I find Alice exactly like me,

We both forget who we're talking to,
We both have a short term memory,
We're both more likely to say something not to the current situation,
We can't play First person game's well,

And We both can't eat horse bacon ;_;

On a serious note, its very interesting to me that so many people who meet and chat with ALICE start to insult her, curse at her, and try to solicit sex. In fact, I think its bizarre chat that is quite worthy of the high standard for SL oddity and quirkiness!

You can find out what people say by asking her to "Tell me some gossip." or maybe just "gossip" by itself. She only mentions first names from what I've seen but she has much to tell you.
