From: Dianne Mechanique Sorry for the offense, but it is fairly established fact that as a general rule Americans are infatuated with guns (which is what I implied).
If you are offended, it's perhaps because you are taking this very general truth, personaly? It is most certainly not a fact! That would be like me generalizing and saying that Men are infatuated with guns. Where are you getting this fact? I don't think Americans purchase guns any more readily than any other nationality. Show me some statistics that show that a majority of households in the U.S. own guns. I take it personally as an american to have such a widely generalized and poorly backed up statement made about my country.

I am never griefed by shooters. Maybe it's because I don't hang out in sandboxes. ....I feel myself being pulled into the RL issue of gun control.... arggg. slipping... slipping.... ..... uggg..... Americans probably own more guns per capita than other nations, because we can. We also probably own more cars, boats, airplanes, and anything else one can list that indicates freedom. Americans are probably more violent as a whole than many countries, because with freedom comes many responsibilities. There are a few who can't handle the freedom, and they abuse it. With more than 100 million guns in the USA one would think there would be more gun violence than there is. After everything is said and done, I will always side with freedom, even with the few bad apples who abuse it, in SL and the USA. ahh, that's better......

Back to the the original topic of this thread...
LL probably didn't expect the griefer varieties of weapons to become significant. All the griefer varieties are abusing functions that have other legitimate uses. And just because there are always idiots who will find away to create abusive scripts doesn't mean we should throw out the baby with the bathwater and get rid of legitimate weapons who work with the LL damage system, or the legimate weapons that use particles and sensors to simulate damage between willing participants even in non-damage-enabled plots/sims. (For example, Crystalshard's Frag-Foo, Deevyde's Portal Wars weapons, Abramelim's Rail Gun and Reason weapons, Cubey's TCC system or Jill Callahan's CCC system, etc.)
So guns should stay. What should go are the griefer idiots who develop griefer weapons. I say if you *make* a griefer weapon, and your name is on the damn thing as the Creator, then your account ought to be banned. I'm not talking little pushes to simulate taking a bullet hit, I'm talking the sim crashing nukes, push you four sims away, cagers that bounce you along rapidly changing vectors so you can't sit yourself out, and the like. That would cut down on the amount of griefer weaps in the game, especially if LL has the wherewithal to search for all instances of the weap already in circulation and just delete them from inventories. (Which I would think should be possible - it's all just records in a database.)
But guns, even griefer guns, aren't the problem. As many people have reported here so far, getting griefed by a gun weapon is pretty rare. But practically everyone gets griefed, all too often, by insanely overpowered plot security scripts. Getting pushed 10 meters away from a tight radius around a property is no big deal, but far too many security scripts eject you into an island wall from which you cannot escape, or worse, they use the freaking teleport home function in a manner that just locks you up solid. Every time that happens to me (far too often), I want to find the owner of the property and use a serious griefer weapon on them, repeatedly.

From: Cadroe Murphy World of Blingcraft? World of Sexxcraft? Thinking of possible non-violent marketing angles for SL here.
Has anyone noticed less shooting in the sandboxes since school classes started recently? (I've noticed less posting on the forums!) hahah! I certainly have. But we are not allowed to suggest that griefers are all kids as we all know that this would be gross typecasting right? I wonder if thre is any statistics gathered on griefer activity as compared to schoool enrollment? Is there a spike during spring break? It would be interesting to know.

In all seriousness I've threadtunnelled before when it ties things together full circle. You know, like digging through China. I make it a point to look at posts two years old and realize, wowza, something's really gotten better, and then connect them like Doc Brown connects that cable in Back to the Future. My past gives my present a sense of order.

(though since it's a personal thing against me, you may well be ok.)

From: Hiro Pendragon Yes, this is a pretty clear valid reason to /bump something so old. Oh right. So it IS about me then? Ok. Be that petty. See, you have your own firm little idea about why I do things because you're SO good at reading people, right? So if I told you that I often compare and contrast current events with older events and bump threads I believe would be interesting today, you'll refuse to believe me and carry on calling me a troll and AR'ing me for it. The very fact that people are almost immediately replying to these older threads should prove my point that they are of interest even now. But no, you can't see past playing forum cop and that you dislike me personally, huh? Maybe I should report you for following me round like a fucking lost puppy all over the forums?

From: Hiro Pendragon I think you like to bait people and then play innocent. I think you should worry less about psychoanalysing people who post and stop expending so much energy following them around to respond. See this is why I put you on ignore in the first place. All you ever do is bitch at people for posting (or AR them for the serious crime of posting in older threads) without actually posting anything constructive yourself. If you had any sense at all, given that you hate my every last post, you'd put me on ignore and save yourself a lot of hassle. You are not a Linden. Get used to it. The more you whine and AR people for your own imagined offences, the more you're just pissing off the Lindens. It makes it all the more hypocritical that you're nothing more than a forum troll yourself.
