That's great so glad to see everyone patting each other on the back and all.

Now can you tell us anyting of any substance, at all? That came out of the trip to NY?

Guess you had to be there :)

Don't worry, there will be another chance. Unless you're just being sarcastic...

I still haven't heard anything of substance. Sorry but I don't waste money for the sake of saying i had drinks with a small web start up.

Hopefully the Messenger or the Herald will run a story on Cory's amazing talk. From the moment he jumped off the stage, he let us all glimpse into the brilliance of his brain. He also laid out the technical direction SL is headed towards, and was extermely open to question.

All of the presentations were great (and on film somewhere). But when Cory spoke you realized what a deal you got on the conference even if you had to travel from many states away and pay for an expensive NYC hotel room.

I like the idea of Vegas for the next one. It's more central to the U.S., hotels are a plenty and flights are cheap.

While I like the idea of Vegas myself, the central ideal doesn't really fit. How about Dallas or Houston? That would be more central.

It is my understanding the SLCC was more for the residents of SL to have a get-together more than for anything of 'substance' - I assume in this case you mean to have meetings and set company (LL) policy/direction.

In other words, if all people did was party and get roaring drunk, then the SLCC accomplished their goal. All else would've been secondary.

While there was a fair amount of partying and people having a good time, the speakers and panelists were all excellent. For starters:

Cory's session on the future direction of SL was fantastic. He covered a lot of bases, and explained many of the Linden rationales for the direction they're heading. A fair amount of time was spent explaining why making sure SL can scale is so much more important to them than new features.

Fizik's session on building a sustainable brand and marketing concepts within Second Life left me with several thousand ideas for my projects. It was incredibly valuable.

Philip's session was wonderful, because he let the residents drive it; I can't tell you how many times Philip basically said, "So, what should we talk about next?"

Hamlet's break-out session was very interesting, as it was much more than, "Hi, I'm Hamlet Linden, I'm a reporter, here's what I do." He went into the how, and why he reports the way he does.

I could go on and on - but let's suffice to say that the videos WILL be available for those who did not attend. View them and you'll see there was a LOT more than partying going on.

Regards,

-Flip

Wow Martin, spoken like someone who really knows his importance in the overall scheme of things. Strange that Esther Dyson felt it was worth the trip and you didn't.

martin, I didn't attend the SOP or SL party, just the sunday SLCC event, but it was an interesting use of time

I have only had a few moments to blog some thoughts here and i'm sure others will be aggregating their thoughts as well

It doesn't seem to me that Martin would be convinced, regardless. Flip summarized it well, there were distinct partying moments, but also great discussions, both public and privately. Perhaps if you got the chance to view Philip or Cory's talk, you'd understand.

Again, I'm not getting the feeling that you (martin) would really care, ultimately. The icy-cold wavefront of cynicism is palpable through my LCD screen.

Of course, you could prove me wrong, and I'd welcome that.

No, I ended up not being able to attend. I donated my pass back into the pot. On that note, I would love to hear from whoever got to use it and hear your anecdotes. I love living vicariously.

You want central? I got central! The geographic centroid of the conterminous United States looks like one hoppin' town! Phillipsburg is a mere 281 miles from Manhattan "The Little Apple" Kansas which is also pretty close to nowhere, but I've a friend who is a professor at KSU (home of the fighting somethings or sumptin) so I can speak highly of the flatness of the area.

Phillipsburg even has its own airport with an average of 26 flights a day from and to absolutely nowhere and only one mile from bustling downtown. Let's rock that town!

Do you think they'd be willing to drop an L from the name for the weekend?
