Is LL protecting Impeach Bush because they're thinking of bringing in billboards? |

If every one doesnt care then fine, but for me it boils down to "I can hide behind my monitor and say or do what ever the f*ck I want and no one can touch me." And I find that to be completely ball-less (is that a word?) and immature. If there is one thing I resent the most, it's users that think they can hide behind their computer and do anything they want becuase no one can get to them.

A quick note regarding freedoms in the US.
We do have freedom to express ourselves - as individuals, on your own property. However, when another's property is involved (such as SL for example), you have to abide by that owner's rules handed down. They have free reign to eject people and impose restrictions. Government property is a bit better, depending on the local rules handed down at state and county level. I know a lot of people here feel that they own the land they're on in SL. However if LL hosts the servers, by that very nature you have to abide by their rules (TOS/CS) and their judgements as a host, for both the good of their bottom line and/or their reputation/longevity. The only way you'll have complete freedoms in the SL format is when you can host the sim on a server that you really *do* own, that *you* have full control over. _____________________

So that is why they want to increase the draw distance so much in the next big version.
Linden wants us to see all the billboards they will bring in. Animated billboards with Coke and tampon ads. Animated pro George Bush ads. |

Free speech means you can turn up your soapbox in Speaker's Corner and say what you wish. It doesn't mean you can burst into Harrods and shout what you want to make sure people listen to you. The Impeach Bush cubes are clearly designed purely to be seen from other plots. That's equivalent to his speech being forced into your house/business/whatever. Free speech could still be provided by putting his case for impeaching bush on a notecard that's handed out on click, so anyone who wants to go listen can do so. I guess I'll post it again, though this seems like a stuck record: http://secondlife.com/vote/index.php?get_id=787 Well your analogy is misplaced. Speakers corner is public land. Speaking out in harrods is entering into the land of another. The principle here is not really free speech. the priciple here is the right to do what you want on land you own and pay tier for. Free speech touches this issue, yes. But really this is about the quiet enjoyment of your property. Of course much of that is alien in GB where they law of property is hugely altered by a 940 year relationship with the crown. _____________________

So then LL has said that they are not going to take down the signs. Why do you not have to abide by thier rules? Why are we even having this debate? From LL's point the issue is decided. _____________________

The best thing people can do right now is not give in and buy the parcels, and not move. Moving is the most damaging thing in this whole mess. It lowers the average main grid land value a tiny bit every time someone does that. I have signed a petition -- made by Prokofy Neva, but that doesn't change a thing, it's well worded -- and anyone can do the same! Just IM him, and he'll give you it on a notecard to sign! Besides that petition, I think I'll move out of the mainland soon... I'm just looking for possibilities, a residental-only private sim won't do for my event and shop place. I began pondering yesterday if that isn't Lazarus' actual goal. A person who wishes to gain tenants on private isles would be well served by this activity. Even worse then that the Lindens assist that! It would be the Linden's interest to keep the mainland habitable, too. |

It is amazing to me that it took me this long - A MONTH EXACTLY - to finally actually input the title of this thread (notwithstanding the fact that I participated in it), thanks to Invect's necroposting, and realize that Blaze (wherever he went) had it correct all along.
