Can someone explain? They seem like some Myg0t or something from SL.
Well, from the amount of posts I have it's obvious I'm new.

Griefers and asshats generally. The first group to go on my ban list when we're finally allowed to ban by group membership.

But it is so easy to get someones UUID all you gota do is stand next to them.

Or, in fact, have a sensor within 96m of something owned by them.

lslint is terrific by the way, saves me no end of time.

Issue is like this, W-hat has a key-database, to which some people upload files from their SecondLife folder.

Certain people choose to save their password in SL.

Thus uploading these files put you at risk of having your account details exposed to anyone running a brute force on the upload or any other thing that LL used to hide them locally.

The "key database" is just a map of UUIDs to names. You can't extract their password from that, unless they are dumb enough to use their username as their password.

In fact, there are several other name2key databases out there. They used to cost L$ to query (like, L$1 per UUID.) All the e-commerce stores that serve SL have name2key databases that they maintain on their own, but these are not usually publicly available - they just use them to get the UUID for purposes of delivering product.

Ulrika opened a name2key database a while back but I think it went away. The w-hat one was always free.

And yes, lslint is marvellous for pruning unused variables and functions - it's saved me a few KB of heap here and there. That is a big deal when you are writing large scripts that use lots of code and data.

Let's compare the three main name2key databases:

w-hat's
http://w-hat.com/name2key

Ulrika's
http://www.ulrikasheim.org/tools/name2key.html

Moopf's
http://www.moopf.com/name2key.php

Ulrika's database allows partial matches, entering just "a" will give you thousands of keys to copy and paste. Both Moopf's and Ulrika's also host a small zip file containing ALL of the keys they've recorded. w-hat's database only allows for a full name search, and doesn't host an entire downloadable database of keys.

Now why is the w-hat database so evil again?

They are your typical griefers in that they are primarily young men in their teens and 20's with a love of all things disgusting, destructive and awful and have no respect for authority, peoples feelings or pretty much anything but their own desires etc. etc.... *yawns*

What (W-Hat)?, are you in denial? She is absolutely correct in her description of members of SA and W-Hat. :D

My dealings with W-hat & SA goons have been mixed. I have a number of friends who are SA goons/W-hat members and I have experienced grief caused by SA goons.

W-hat attracts people who like to push the buttons of authority; either because they do not like authority, or they just like pushing peoples buttons. Consequently they have been involved in a number of activities ranging from civil disobedience to outright anarchy; some falling under greifing, others not. Since the W-hat demographic is mostly men in their 20's they typically lack the life experience to gage when they are pushing things too far.

W-hat generally is not an organization that griefs; though it has had a large number of members who were greifers.

Though I'm not a member of this group, I have friends and acquaintances who are. I appreciate how you didn't group them all under a blanket stereotype. Thank you.

On another note, I find it interesting that the self-appointed vigilante groups to combat the griefers are also on the rise. I wonder when the first abuse on the other side will occur...
