Can someone explain? They seem like some Myg0t or something from SL.
Well, from the amount of posts I have it's obvious I'm new.

W-Hat is a group in SL from the Something Awful forums, they specialize in trolling and griefing.

Check the SL Herald. They had a pretty accurate and fair representation without any media sensationalism of what w-hat is.

The official W-Hat channel is #sl on irc.zirc.org.

What is the point of having a 3 month membership in Something Awful? This selects for what?

Are you sure you don't have them mixed up with Atheists? ;)

It's a group of people who have accounts on forums.somethingawful.com. The 3 month rule is to filter out people who just buy forum accounts to get into w-hat, which is a problem because then everything we say goes over their heads (because they don't know enough about the SA forums) and they tend to spout tired catchphrases and do other annoying things.

There are some griefers, but you're going to find griefers in any large group (and W-Hat numbers in the 100s.) The only thing that really unifies us is that we've had accounts on SA for 3+ months. Some people seem to think we are centrally organized, with some kind of leader who commands everyone to go out on griefing raids, but this is not the case - we're not a "military" style group. It's just a loose association of people who have SA forum accounts.

Seems to me that there's a job opening here.. My rates are very competitive. Where do I apply?

W-hat has been pretty quiet lately now 4 topics pop up about them and 3 got locked? They must have accidently added some more idiots to the group... Dispite what their website says i still find it to be a group containing griefers. Atleast i knew SOME decent intelligant people enrrolled in it, unlike that /b/ group. Ya know if i was ever in a group where people planned to grief with it, i would get out of it.. Not worth losing my account over that.

hmmmm that guy from the other day, he wasn't even amusing.

I mean you can say many things about Something Awful, they are disgusting degenerates, BUT.... they are usually funny as hell at the very least.

All that dweeb did was cuss, he needs to take some lessons from Daddy Lowtax.

Well, somebody needs to seriously look at the situation. Look at this post first...

/140/ce/130912/1.html

then look at these...

/108/37/130823/1.html
/108/42/130821/1.html
/108/e9/130830/1.html

Are they able to take over accounts, or what?

Issue is like this, W-hat has a key-database, to which some people upload files from their SecondLife folder.

Certain people choose to save their password in SL.

Thus uploading these files put you at risk of having your account details exposed to anyone running a brute force on the upload or any other thing that LL used to hide them locally.

So as long as one is not a member of the database and has not uploaded any file to their site, you're safe?

I'm sorry - what does one have to do with the other?

To know your names - two thirds of your login - one only needs to see your name in-world.

A weak password is extra dangerous in SL becasue of that. Everyone should change thier password regularly and often, and use passwords like "No98_Vakk024_283a".

Your password is not stored in the names.cache file, which is the file that gets uploaded to the various name-to-key databases.

W-Hats are griefers who all generally go to know each other from being involved in the Something Awful website and group.

They are your typical griefers in that they are primarily young men in their teens and 20's with a love of all things disgusting, destructive and awful and have no respect for authority, peoples feelings or pretty much anything but their own desires etc. etc.... *yawns*

Here is a picture of a couple of typical W-Hat members in RL (note the hats)

I could join W-hat if I wanted, I meet all the requirements. I think my SomethingAwful forum account dates back to 2002 (Granted I've only got like 3 or 4 posts). Just never really had the urge. Hell I played UO with Lowtax back in the day ;)

I had never seen their site before. I about fell out of my chair laughing. I live in fudo and my best friend has property in baku right next to them. they are racist GIVE me a break. Main reason I have banned them, any of them I see on my land is automatically banned. They have shot at us. Not just a few, it's the majority of them since I have banned large groups of them at times, large meaning 10 at a time.

luckily lately their land has been quite, hoping it stays that way. Hopefully with all the abuse reports most of them are gone.

the w-hat key2name database isn't something i like. But it is so easy to get someones UUID all you gota do is stand next to them. Thank goodness UUIDs dont really do anything. Just allow people to spam you with notecards and items... You can mute most of that sheit... Now the file you upload COULD contain info to allow them to hack you, i'm not sure. I haven't really taken a look at it. I personally never will upload one cuz i don't wish to help this database grow... My UUID has already been added to their system. I saw it already. So yea.. Nothing we can do about it sadly...
