seen any really great ones yet? ?? lots of potential, I'm excited to see what people come up with My friends, you have given me HUD llSetText and for that I am most grateful. For this I forgive all sins committed in the transition to 1.7. I hope this absolution is a comfort after, armed with a textable HUD, I release the most comprehensive ass-kicking device known to the grid. ![]() _____________________

seen any really great ones yet? ?? lots of potential, I'm excited to see what people come up with There would be more potential if: 1. They could be auto-attached from the inventory of an object when a car is used or an attachment attached 2. If they snapped properly to places such as bottom right etc. so bits weren't missing on different screen sizes. Useability would make a whole heap of difference to the potential. At the moment, they're kinda fiddly for the end users. EDIT: Having said that I will have a product with a HUD soon, but it could of been so much more useable ![]() _____________________

Wow, llSetText on HUD attachments? Maybe I can ditch these zillions of XyText scripts in mine. It would be even better if there was a fixed-width option.

Yes, fixed width would indeed be a great option. I tried to do this by adding a 1cm x 1cm x 1cm cube and a 10m x 10m x 10m cube into the prims for an attachment but, unsuprisingly, the HUD was still scaleable ![]() _____________________

I've had four interesting HUD attachments so far.
One was me - adapting the "FaceAnim" script to access the built-in face animations via the HUD. Another is the Dominus Shadow. Another is a HUD jetpack - not just the advantage of having the display, but freeing up an actual avatar attachment spot is always nice. Lastly, predictable but no less useful, HUD pose and animation. _____________________

EDIT: Having said that I will have a product with a HUD soon, but it could of been so much more useable ![]() I'm really not all that worried about that. As long as you request attach perms on_rez, you can script the object to automatically attach to any given attach point. The user will have to give permission (which is lame, but meh) I'll use a master button to show/hide all of my HUD elements. Which means people can leave them on and hide them when not in use. Perfect? Nah. But it'll do just fine. _____________________

I wouldnt want auto-attach, w-hats would then auto-attach goatse.cx to the whole grid. _____________________

Here are just a few of the HUDs we have created so far...
Burst HUD - A Nice change of pace from the old way of typing it in. ("Push-Button" technology lets you one-touch poof/burst with ease!) http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=32499 Sim Stats HUD - This one has an especially unique feature never seen before! (It tells you the Server Class, CPU type & number of linked Sims to the one your in!) http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=34181 Speedometer HUD - Display, in kilometers per hour, your current speed. (Works while walking, running, flying & can be used in vehicle or movement systems.) http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=33206 |

Mood Mixer went to Hud a day or so after the 1.7 release.
Now instead of saying mm or /9mm or trying to find an invisible prim on your ass (through your hair) you can click an easy to find invisible prim on your hud. It's a great feature because Mood Mixer settings are changed by clicking, so typing a code-word could never be ergonomic. An upgrade script is available at my store in Mauve. All it does is help you move it around so you can see it when attached to the hud. Shameless self promotion: Mood Mixer is an animation organizer for walk and stand animations. It takes SL to a new level of interaction. ---Extremely natural to use--- The basic panel displays 8 "mood" buttons. Each mood contains a set of anims that will randomly play while the button is "on". You can mix and match buttons for 256 possible combinations of body language. With this system you can change your body signals in seconds with a balance of control and randomness that simulates a real person (who has great communication skills). Change your walk in 2 clicks Change your "typing" animation the same way Other fully automatic features are easy to adjust. ---A snap to customise--- All anims load automatically, just drag n' drop (no notecard). You can change the names of the moods (using VERY simple notecard) |

If we can tell a client to render text across an attached prim face, why can't we do that with any prim and transmit the settings to all the clients in the area? In other words, if the client is capable of rendering text across a HUD, why can't it render text across any prim face that's visible?
