I love 1.7 so far BUT how come builds aren't rezzing til you are either very close or you have rammed your avie to it? Even after it rezzes, as soon as you turn around its gone again... :(

or you can right click the object and go into edit, and then wait 4-5 secs and it loads.. but then goes away after some minutes.. :(

Also, the new "interest list" method for prioritizing the data sent abotu the world around you makes the server send first the close buildings, and only then the further things. when the user server and asset server are not smoking anymore, and when the sims have their cache refreshed, it'll be snappier than ever.

has nothing to do with patience... it seems like a new "feature" not something that will be fixed.

I still think my solution was better, just give auto-cut control.

So you can zoom in and out with +/- to auto change your distance cut.

Ahh, well.

Who knows, maybe when you had a 64 cut they were still sending data from outside your cut zone.

Trust us, it does. Look at the other threads here - in a day or two once everyone has logged in, re-cached all the things they're used to primarily staring at all day, ect, then it will get better.

I think things have already started to improve.

Last night textures wouldn't load, even after sitting in a place for half an hour - and my inventory took more than an hour to become available.

However, this morning before leaving for work I teleported around a bit and found that entire sims were rezzing in less than a minute. My inventory was available immediately. And it felt like my frame rate was better now, than before the update.

Things will still be flakey for another day or so, but from where I sit this update has been pretty smooth.

Last night I played Tringo on transparent cards, in a transparent room, with an out of focus example board, and people I could barely see.

When I moused over the scoreboard, I could see the scores. When I moused over my board, I could see my shapes. Just not both at the same time!

Play went smoothly; when each new piece came up, it miraculously came into focus for me. Pieces were placed promptly with little lag.

There was a great sense of community - one or two players volunteered themselves to keep focus on the scoreboard and call out the scores for everyone else. Some said the sense of playing in a misty void was surreal, but fun. Some great scores were achieved.

All in all, I was impressed by the scheduling that downloaded just the critical textures to me exactly when I needed to see them. Thumbs up!

Keep in mind that not everyone in the game world was logged in yesterday, either. Some may not long in until today, or tomorrow or even later. For each of those people, they will have to re-cache all their assets.

As the days go by, there will be fewer and fewer 1.7 virgins logging on for the first time and slowly the strain on the grid will subside.

I had the same experience on the preview grid, I really think its a feature... not a bad one I suppose... but builds dont stay rezed unless your at them or your draw distance is sky high...

I was talking to one of the Lindens the other night while on the preview servers and he said the preview servers were VASTLY underpowered. He said in fact he was spending his time going around returning objects with active scripts just to keep things running. FYI this was the night someone crashed the grid and people were going on the preview servers just to do something.

I'm not sure where either. Maybe it's a portion of the site yet to be launched. From what I understand it will publish your SL profile pic and anything entered in the about box.
