Yes, that is a skin that I made. It is NOT meant for resale. It is not even meant to be free. It was "leaked". Thanks SL bugs! LL will do absolutely nothing about it. I've come to terms with it being a "freebie" but I do take exception to people selling it.

I'll be contacting SLB and/or the person trying to sell it and see if I can get it taken down. Bleh.

Edit (in response to Sensual's post):

I can not see a photo either, but the name of the skin is "CS Passport Skin - Malibu/Brown (Understated)" which happens to be the exact name of my leaked skin. So I'd guess there's something like a 99% chance it's my skin and maybe 1% she's selling something else using the name of my skin. Either way, icky.

Flip is very prompt about removing things of that nature from SLB. We unfortunately do not have the time to thoroughly inspect all of the listings on SLB. But, we do take care of anything that is brought to our attention i.e. freebies being resold.

Great Gorean Auction! I hope she will get some severe virtual spankings for that. lol

You know, if they had been selling furry avatars, this thread would have had it all: "Gorean slave sells freebies of furry avatars on SLBoutique." We were so close to encapsulating the last six months of forum drama into one thread! ;)

Regards,

-Flip

The account has been locked and all items by the "seller" have been removed pending investigation. Thanks for the heads up; I'll contact Starley.

WHY I will only list with SLBoutique. Flip makes sure that if its found out that someone is selling unauthorized content, (beyond being the only copy of said item) he gets it off his site.

I thought I heard somewhere that she released one for free? Well, if she didn't, she should know that there is a free one floating around out there. I picked it up in a freebie box of skins, I can't remember where, now.
No, this was the skin texture that was stolen and, despite being reported pursuant to the DMCA, LL has not removed this texture from the database.

For what its worth Starley - I picked up that skin in a freebie box and have loved wearing it. I did not know until now that it was not supposed to be free.

Anyhoo - I think you do the best Nipples in SL :)

I believe the skin in question was originally an item Starley sold that got nailed by the permissions bugs that cropped up around v1.5. Since others started selling the suddenly "full-mod" version, Starley then made it a freebie. The person who was selling it on SLBoutique had taken Starley's freebie (and two others) and attempted to re-sell them. We don't take kindly to that, and locked the account and removed the offending items.

SLBoutique has a strict policy of only allowing people to sell their own creations, or creations they have permission to sell in advance from the creator. Any reported items are temporarily disabled, investigated, and then removed completely if the report turns out to be true.

Hahaha, the rest of this thread really made me laugh!

For the record, I completely understand that not all merchandise can be inspected as it's listed, and I am very happy with the speed and results achieved after contacting SLB. I just wish we could get LL to react in such a fashion. Have you guys thought about taking over? ;)

BTW, and maybe this is not the thread for it, but does anyone know of anyone who has ever filed a DMCA notice that resulted in any sort of takedown or other action? I keep asking around and all I'm finding are frustrated people that were ignored or told to fly a kite. I'd be very interested to hear from someone who had success on that front.

Anyway, thanks for the giggles and prompt attention!

Cheers!

She said it was an SL bug that released it, not that it was stolen. From what I can glean I think that means it was suddenly given full permissions.

It's a shame that LL doesn't respond to these kinds of things. At least they could have deleted the texture, it was their fault, after all.

As a designer who got nailed by that bug, there is a problem with deleting the texture. If LL deletes it, then it disappears from all inventories - including those who paid for it prior to the bug.

IF LL was willing to compare account transactions to a particular inventory key and find out who paid for it, who get's stuck with the compensation bill?

I list on both SLExchange and SLBoutique and I'm completely satisfied with both, and greatly enjoy both.

I recommend both services to everyone who asks.

I agree that is a problem, but in my specific case, I kept meticulous records of who bought the skin, which amounted to a total of six people. It would have been very easy for me to reupload and replace the skin for the people who bought it. I was also willing to provide the skin again as a freebie with correct permissions to prevent unauthorized reselling. I really don't mind giving a skin away, I think it's a great thing for newbies to have, but I would much rather be charitable on my own terms.

I'm glad to help out any way I can.

I think the problem Linden Lab has is that their system is much more decentralized than mine. What they need is a way to do something along the lines of:

"Remove all items of type "X" created by person "Y" containing texture "Z" that were brought into existence after *date*". Either that, or some way to figure out the item keys that had the permissions changed, change them back, and delete any copies spawned from those items while they had fault permissions. Its definitely not an easy task any way you look at it, because of the need to distinguish between legitimate and non-legit copies... if fact, with the current tech, it might be impossible.

Regards,

-Flip :)

How can you tell? I am not seeing any pics. is it just me?

The seller didn't post any pics, I think to avoid people noticing that it wasn't his own creation, particularly those that already own it and KNEW it wasn't his. None of the 3 items he listed had pics.

I got it in a freebie pack, Starley -- and I love it. It's the first time I've had a tan in my whole life (double-whammied by redheads on both sides of the family). Sorry to hear it was let out as a freebie by a bug. What was the price before that? (I figure I owe you for it, hon...)
