I adore my new Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX, and had no troubles with my previous Nvidia cards, except: Nothing made by a company called Dreamcatcher would play on my GeForce4 440.

Due to my Geforce3 Ti500 (or something like that), blowing out less than 6 months after I bought years ago while it was a top dog of gaming cards... I don't touch Nvidia anymore.
Since then, I used an ATI Radeon 9600pro w/128mb for several months. Then, I upgraded to an ATI Radeon x850 XT w/256mb and it's been great. |

I use Intel Extreme Graphics 2, which is the poster boy for rotten graphics cards elsewhere on the forums. But I won't change until it stops working for me and once I determine which is best for my HP Pavilion (assuming anything works with it...)

I'm seeing quite a few reports of green dots, texture problems, etc. These effects, especially if they lead to a lock-up after a certain period of usage, are usually due to heat or power quality issues. Do try a little extra cooling before ditching a perfectly good video card, even if it's just running with the case open

Apart from the greyed out AGP tickybox that is slightly annoying, SL runs great on my 9800xt
and it also looks great.. _____________________

Zephria
Lets look at this logically. You said in another thread that you were having problems with your computer before you changed video cards and it was doing the exact same thing after you put the new card in. From what you have said, you have upgraded the power supply to what Nvidia recommended, you have updated all the drivers and used drive cleaner, you formatted and reloaded windows and SL and it still does the same thing. I recomended doing a memory check and assuming it passed that test, do you think it might be a problem with the Emachine hardware you are using? _____________________

Yes im very curoius here ... Smiles .. How many of you Have Nvidia Cards And how many of you have ATI Cards here ... I had only problems with ATI and SL ![]() Thought it was stable (ATI 9600 XT, 128 MB), no matter what I did, no bump maps or shiny on my screen. I tried to update drivers, etc, but didn't help. Now with an NVidia 6600 GT 128 MB, everything's nice and shiny! Never EVER an ATI again! PS: Oh, yeah, and NVidia + Transgaming WineX runs SL 1.6.x on Linux, though only in a Window. ATI got me nowhere there ![]() Though I like the fullscreen (and Linux SL WineX sometimes crashes), thus use Windows most of the time, it's nice to be able to not dual-boot on occasion. |

This weekend I got a new computer it has an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 which is, from what I've read, the newest version of the Intel Graphics cards. I can get into SL, but the ground looks washed out and I can't set the graphics up much more than what they were when I first started SL, on the new computer, without avatar movement looking jerky. However avatars and textures look as good as they did with the old computers NVIDIA Geforce FX 5600 256 MB card.
This is only temporary for me however, since my new computer has a PCI-Express 16X slot available and when I have the funds available, which should be in the next few weeks, I'll be getting a card for it. Not sure which exact card I'm going to get though, but I know it will be a NVIDIA. |

nVidia seems to be the work horse for SL is what I get from it. Its the most compatible and won't give you any issues. ATI, is a shot in the dark I think.
Best of luck. _____________________

Nah, there are to many other variables that can alter the ati/nvidia debate. My girlfriend runs a ATI 9800 PRO 128mb in her machine and SL is fine. I run a GEforrce 5600xt in mine and its laggy I have a ATI 9600 64mb in my lap top wich does fine unless there are tons of things going on and it cant handle it couse of the limited memory amount. I think if they can once and for all get an ATI driver that is fully *compliant* with SL then the gap would be small if any on the difference between the two. couse like some one else said that damn AGP button being grayed out annoys me as well ![]() |
