Is this a clue to the Starax mystery?

You know what really, really pisses me off, and also makies me suspect he might be back sometime?
He could have sold rights to his entire project range to a third party before leaving (the wand probably being a special case, bearing in mind the sheer complexity and support issues for anyone) and cashed out with a very nice severance cheque... Like serious RL money.

Starax strikes me as the type of person who would not be willing to sell over his creations wholesale.

Perhaps he was working on an SL interface to something like this site. :)

What's the translation for this?

彰盈

Family/Region name Chang - Sememe for "Full" connot. "Complete". It's the Chinese equivalent of "Peoria Unlimited" or "Smith General Supply".

The loss. Not purely personal, but the fact that if he's not coming back, we aren't going to see many of his creations around. As SL grows, his content will be diluted so to speak.

And to be perfectly honest, I'd have been only too happy to distribute his products. For quite selfish reasons.

i will miss starax. Like i said before the only thing i ever bought from starax was a werewolf av a long time ago. Very shiny it was. I don't consider myself a customer. I'm more like a long lost friend since i knew him 4 years ago when we both played AO. He was always fun to talk to. I'm pretty sure that message he left behind wasn't directed to us, but to those who did enough damage to make him leave. I believe most of us have a good idea who those people are too...

I had saved L$7500 for a wand (almost there!), in anticipatin of it getting fixed and him putting back up for sale.

I don't know, still seems like bad form to just up and leave. What about all the people who paid him for his wand?

What about us? We got the item we paid for. Some got more for their buck when they got it for 10k before the price incremented up to 18k. :p

For months before Starax and I went seperate ways, I argued with him about the ways he used temp on res to get around prim limits (which is how it started with the ressers). Despite there being no formal policies against it, it is an exploit and unfair to others in a sim where such an object is being used. It sucks on resources too hard. He wouldn't hear of it though, despite my argument that one day Lindens would do something about it and break the high priced items he was selling, leaving customers who made those purchases out of the product AND the money. He point blank told me he didn't care about that. But continue to sing the praises of someone you don't really know.

As for why he left, who knows. Maybe he decided finally to go get a job.

OK so he gave a rat's ass about all the above. I don't care tho. I and alot of other people had and still have tons of fun with his wand. Now that we all know that Starax was a careless ass and unemployed bum, let me say it once again: I still respect him and admire his work, and I will miss him!

Starax's Wand - the rich griefers tool of choice! :D

So true! How can a tawdry fire-bomb griefer compete with someone that can hit back with tidal waves, stampedes of buffalo or freight trains? =)

Andrew Linden has stated temp-on-rez would be returning to it's previous way, the formula he used previously was the one starax was not happy with.

here is his latest on this

Also temp-on-rez limit is based on parcel size (according to his last formula), the bigger parcel you got the more resources you had, I don't see how this would affect others in the sim. They too have access to this feature, depending on their parcel size.

Wand this, wand that. What the phreak did the wand do? I have no idea what you all are talking about.

i dont miss him. For unknown reasons he hated me and he countered every single thing I said in these forums. So his counterpoint rhetoric is not something I miss. Especially when he did not have the decency to face me in person in SL and tell me what his beef was in the first place.

So bye Starax, hope the door did not hit you on the way out buddy. Thanks for screwing more than half your customer by leaving a broken wand and a host of creations hogging way too many prims to display in less than 4 sims worth of server space.

Bye, Buh Bye, bye now...

Troy

How did he screw his customers? How is the wand broken?

The wand was probably one of the weirdest things ever in all of SL. It just did things. If you typed "Listen" a giant ear would pop up and face you. I saw Cory skywriting with it once. It was random and bizarre and worth the 18k.

I liked Starax. I thought he was brilliant and weird. I just hope he didn't kill himself or something, I keep looking around for a thread from a family member saying that's where he's gone; in my experience online/forum disappearances usually preceed those announcements.
