I'm a cybergrrl so I spend a lot of my time in places like Nexus Prime, Devil's Moon (thanks to this thread), and Chaos. I was exploring the underground tunnels in Chaos (thanks to this thread) when it hit me. Yeah, it's fun to find all the hidden places and see all the great builds-but it would also be nice if there was some*thing* to find. For example-say I walk into an office in Nexus Prime and there's all this neat, original furniture. It would be great if I could take a copy or at least buy it. Something you can get from there and no where else.
I found this rebel hide out in Chaos with a flamethrower or something leaning against it. It would have been neat to be able to take a copy.

Something else that is neat is if there is a coherent storyline for the place. This is something that Chaos and Nexus Prime sorta do. I was standing on the top of the tallest building in Nexus Prime when there was an alert about mutant violence in the old town sector. That was neat-got my blood pumping.

Something else that would be really kewl is more background noises. Lots of machine noises and stuff.

Thanks for the kind words about Chaos. Eventually we will have a lot more interactivity, especially in terms of storyline. I'm going to mention your suggestions to Ferran, Chaos's other owner. Currently, we are having fun with swimming, so watery canals and pools are erupting all over the sim.

SL Web Ring?
12-19-2005 10:27
Here's a suggestion. I'm noticing that a lot of these places kind of fall into certain categories. Like Nexus Prime, Devil's Moon, and Chaos are all sci-fi type places while Wind and Eldemar are more fantasy.

Now that we have P2P TP, why don't you all band together in an alliace-sort of like a webring with TP spots to each other's locations? That way Elves can travel from one fantasy location to the next and never have to step foot in a mall or cyber city if they don't want to. It would also help people discover new places.

And just like webrings you could set the TP to a specific location or random. This would also be great for IW games or tourist attractions like amusment parks. You could have a sci-fi ring, a fantasy ring, a fun ring, a goth ring, or say a family ring where SL parents can take their younger SL kids. (where or where has Spitoonie gone!?)

I was just in a sim called Serenite last night... really beautiful place, all snowy, very peaceful. There are a couple of shops in one corner, but that's it. It has rambling paths through snowy hills, a bridge lined with luminarias, gardens, quiet spots to meditate... also a really amazing build that replicates the M.C. Escher picture with the stairs going in all directions. Very beautiful and magical place.

Thanks for the kind words, Ilianexsi. I wanted to keep the island as open and as natural as much as possible. The idea was to have a calming landscape with art and areas to meditate to be discovered by the visitor. I’ve tried to keep the retail that supports the place as unobtrusive as possible, the bulk of it is actually hidden 200m up so as to keep the land clear for the waterways and gardens. Be sure to come back in spring when the ground thaws and the island returns to its normal lush green. :)

As for my pick, Baron’s Sanctum Sanctorum sim is the place I love to escape in. It’s one of the few sims that I visit that I can get lost just admiring the land textures let alone the rest. The retail is unobtrusive and terraforming and prim landscaping makes the sim feel much larger than it is. It is truly a unique and exquisite space in SL.

Nice to see The Blarney Stone made the list. My friends and I have put a lot of effort into creating a genuine Irish Bar atmosphere, while avoiding the many " attractions" that seem to be part of SL Club life.

Thanks

Dear Developers of Devil's Moon,

I love your sim. Love it. But, honestly, I can't get into a Bladerunner sim while listening to "Who Let The Dogs Out". :(

:D Yes, the police drones in Chaos fight back and you can destroy them. I was perched on a building last night watching a spirited firefight. We hope to have more of that kind of interactivity over the next couple of months.

Just bumping this because I want to see what other places people may suggest. So far all the suggestions have been spot on.

At the Brokken Homes Wildlife and Runaway Refuge (Dryas 162, 66, 38), there is a fabulous cathedral (cheesy bone throne nonewithstanding). To be honest, I'm not quite sure what it's for (if anything), but it's really lovely.

Edited because I just found it: the Hobo Railroad! It's in Catella (156, 211, 31). Neat little hobo village.

I won't even mention Susieland (Vail 148,135) even if it was established in Oct 2004 and is the longest running and best Celtic music and dance center in SL.

Nor will I mention Susie and Melissa's Forest Preserve (Sand 92,63) which is the only authentic pioneer homestead in Second Life.

Since these two places don't offer towering builds which boggle the mind I don't want to mention them. After all who wants to see a bunch of trees with no Tringo and camping chairs in sight?

Malibu City

This rogue cybergrrl is in cyber heaven! Another cyber city has popped up! Another playground and boy it's a doozy! Not as much to explore as Chaos or Nexus Prime, but you can rent an apartment and they have a real roving police force and laws to enforce no less. And *that* means laws to break and cops to evade! Woot!

It's a no fly sim so be sure to bring a vehicle...but make sure you get a license...and if you're packing....that's another license and a $350 fee.

You might add the SL Botanical Gardens in Federal to your list. It has 5 waterfalls, 6 fountains, over 100 trees, a Sky Garden and a kissing gazebo. Lots of little spots for conversation or romance.

I don't think anyone has mentioned The Lost Gardens of Apollo. It's an island sim and very, very pretty.
If they have, I am sorry for being redundant :)

You can't say ENOUGH about that place! It's just....magical. My gf proposed to me there and we're getting married there!

The Hedonistic Retreat (Lakeville, 208, 136, 55). It's not very big, but check out the stone walkway under the hut (accessible, IIRC, only from the hut). It shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to go through the whole thing, including loading time, but it's pretty.

ROMA Roman Attraction
01-21-2006 20:33
Hi Kiamat and everyone

I've recently finished an ancient Roman themed attraction in the Linda sim. I've tried to recreate some of my favorite buildings from antiquity there (given my prim allowance) and have "info points" to tell all visitors about the reconstructions and ancient Roman culture. I also have a museum of ancient art, a Pompeiian tavern, gardens, and a few hidden places as well. :) It's meant to be a tourist destination with a lot to see and experience, so I invite you and anyone else to stop by anytime. If I'm on I'm glad to give tours. You can find it under the find menu as ROMA (although unfortunately you have to slog thru all the entries with "romance" and other similar words in their descriptions) or by finding the picks in my profile.

Take care! :D

Unfortunately I went to see the sim "Wind" as the description sounded nice. I think it is fine for sim owners to use their land for whatever they want - including caging me twice and shooting my friend off the map, I suppose - but be advised that it's not a good place to sightsee.
