How Many People Do You Map

There's much talk of how rude it is to map someone and teleport to the top of their head with no warning. Honestly, there are about a dozen people on my just pop in list; but I still click away from them and walk to their exact location. And still, if they're with one other dot, or a large crowd, it can usually just wait unitl later. If it's really really important, there's always the preliminary IM to soften the interruption.

Anyway, I'm just wondering, poll wise, how this pans out across the forum crowd. Feel free to post comments of course; but please at least vote for me otherwise I may cry and begin to stalk your very SL existence so I will.

I have never mapped anyone. I respect my friends and their privacy.

If anyone maps to me (which is annoyingly often) then I consider them mappable.

Mapping people without first asking them if they are busy... absolutely rude. When I am in my house... I am generally scripting... and I keep my Personal Security HUD on (Psyke's - highly recommended) and set to auto-TP people home. No warning for me? No warning for you.

I voted for never since I wasn't sure how you count checking where people are on the map, making sure they aren't at their home, then TPing in and ransacking the joint while they are out shopping, Tringoing, or what have you (wink wink nudge nudge).

One would think. Accept my friendship so I can contact and map you when I want but don't you dare use this feature to track or contact me. HA! yeah right ~ In your face and then some.

But that's a point with me, I'm only this intrusive with people that I'm okay being intrusive with me. It's not lack of respect; it's mutual sharing of a collaborative space. What is that word Philip's always using oh yeah commuuuuuity, implying, of course, some common rules.

haha...never! It's the most annoying thing! Sitting down having a conversation, Dancing with a partner in a romantic spot, whatever it is that your doing, there is NO reason to map someone when there is an IM system that is thoroughly capable of getting your message to them without just popping in.

funny, just last night I was talking to a business partner on one of my sims and someone mapped them...I politely asked "Hey, did that person just map you here?" They said yes, and the "mapper" (lmao) was promptly banned from my regions. Harsh? Maybe....

There really needs to be a feature to be taken off the map when you don't want to be mapped. A toggle, of sorts. When I am scripting... I want to be left alone.

I do map people but only very occasionally and under special circumstances. For instance if I was working on a project with another person or group of people and I knew they were working on it at the time then I might as it'd be to do with a shared project. Even then I try to make a point of inquiring by IM first, tho sometimes I forget. I would never use such a method to invade someone's privacy.

I answered never because it's just bad manners to drop in on anyone RL or SL without calling first.

Also in RL even if your so close to someone that you don't call them before you go over, there is this little thing called a "door" that save's you from coming in while they are scratching their bum or admiring themselves naked in the mirror, whereas in SL you can TP into their lap.

I think you have your terminology mixed up though.

I "map" people all the time, to see where they are or if they are alone or at a party, that's completely normal IMO. It's the dropping in on them unannounced *after* you have mapped them that's usually rude.

The primary problem with people mapping me is that I might be working on scripts that have collission or touch events and I haven't finished adding filtering yet.

I map my friends to see if they're busy, but I never teleport to them without ample warning and their permission.

Mapping is one thing, teleporting in unannounced is quite another.

When I desperately need to escape an area I will quickly pull up the map and teleport into a void sea if possible, like the center of the atoll.

Anyone is welcome to teleport onto my head at anytime. That's how I roll.

But yeah, like Khamon, if I'm popping in on someone I teleport several meters away and walk over, and if they look busy I leave 'em alone.

I only do it with a select few people whom I know don't care, like Mistress (who also ports to me in the same way). Once, I ported to Her unannounced and found that I'd popped into a Gorean sim (She was visiting a friend there) in street clothing with a pistol still strapped to my thigh.

And I wear a collar.

And my av is not exactly human.

It was a funny oops. :p

I think everybody has their own "space"........and for me if they want me to join their space they are gonna have to ask me. It just doesn't feel right to pop in on somebody who is out of visual range unannounced. I have some friends that do it and I suppose if I was THAT annoyed I'd take them off the friends list but just because THEY do it doesn't mean I am gonna do it.

Respecting other people is part of this game and any other really, and just hopping on top of them just seems disrespectful and even creepy when I think about it.

I map people quite often. I find that human skin makes much better maps than other animals skins. Much less hair, and the skin shows the tattoos off much better. Of course most of the folks I have mapped forcibly resisted me taking their skins, so I use a tranq gun now.

I sometimes do the map checking thing, but rarely do I pop in unnanounced... I don't even think I suprise-mapped at least once this year. I do ask permission when I TP via map, and usually I don't mind if I am mapped, though it is annoying when I am in a themed sim such as Caledon or Nexus Prime.

I wish people would map me more often. I remember the flash mob Ingrid and Barnes did around me once when I was feeling anti-social... even Torley showed up :) Good times...

Whenever I have time I usually port myself over to a few select friends to see what they're up to.

When SL started you pretty much just ported wehrever there were green dots, and struck up a conversation. It's what made SL great.

Now everybody's worried about friends seeing their no-nos in their skyboxen. Bah.

If you don't want them to pop up unannounced ever, de-friend them. End of story.

People really need to open up more.

And yes, you can map me anytime.

I'm not interested in the "no-no" aspect of SL. But when I am scripting, I don't need to get sucked into a conversation by someone who feels I am "working too much". I have friends in SL, and I love to script. If I let my friends map me whenever they want, I would get nothing done.

I also absolutely hate it when I am discussing business, and someone maps me. I would actually like to discuss a build or script with a potential client without someone figuring they would "drop in".

I'll socialize when I feel like it... I don't need someone else's map telling me when that is. I shouldn't have to avoid using the friends list to get some respect.
