I'd like to hear some opinions on which forum i should migrate to once these official forums close.
What I want is one, and only one forum that will:
Have a large majority of the users currently on this forum
Have people that are indifferent and objective when moderating (IE no one that lets personal feelings cause their decisions on running the forums)
Have a rants and raves section for unmoderated namecalling and bitching, but other sections that are moderated
Continue to emphasize the whole point of this forum, which is to have conversation, collaboration, and communication amongst the residents.
Please let me know your personal opinions, and positive and negative experiences with the forums you use

From: Lost Newcomb I'm going to the blog, and have my posts preemptively censored and purged. When you put it like that it doesn't sound half bad. Why didn't Robin just explain it that way?

Stratics all the way, no question about it.
Although the Stratics Second Life site does not have the 'rants' section you desire, there is a global non-specific forum called "Stratics Off Topic" where almost anything goes. This may suit your needs for that part.

Second Citizen ( http://forums.secondcitizen.com) all the way, no question about it. Second Citizen has all the 'rants' and "off-topics" you desire as well as all the regular forum sections we are used to in SL's forums. Aimee

Lewis yeah, but you have no power over anyone, nor gays nor lesbians nor transgenders there you do at stratics but yes, you do post at second citizen, i admit, but you generally can't handle dealing with your words here when you get there when people can say what they want to you without fear of ZOMG resmods, so you leave the thread but i hardly think many people here want to go from one money grubbing censored corporate machine to another money grubbing censored corporate machine the fact that you are in charge over there doesnt help your case

From: Mulch Ennui the fact that you are in charge over there doesnt help your case Oh Interesting point. Folks should know that while I endorse Second Citizen as the best new defacto standard forum ... I am not in any way affliliated with Second Citizen. I don't know the owner, I'm not a moderator, I am not involved with them in any way. I just like place and will likely take all my future postings there.

the fact that you are in charge over there doesnt help your case Actually you're wrong on both statements. Stratics is run almost entirely by volunteers. It is certainly not a 'money grubbing censored corporate machine' by any means. Additionally, I am not running Stratics or the Second Life Stratics site. I am content manager, meaning I oversee the news teams and content teams on the Second Life site. I have no input whatsoever on the forums, policies, moderation, advertising or in fact have the final say on anything. I do my job, I do it very well, and if you looked at what I did you would see no reason to complain. The portal manager's name on Stratics is Teresk, his SL name is Trenton Campbell, and you are more than welcome to take up with him any genuine issues you have about Stratics. He is in charge, not me, which I repeat again in case you missed first time round. By the way, dropping out of a thread so as to not feed the trolls, of which SC is full of, is more an issue of exercising self-control instead of wimping out. I honestly can't believe I have to waste all this time defending myself when I've done nothing. Lewis

As I posted in the other thread, I'm staying here. Not everything is going away ya know...
I keep track of enough forums already. I may follow one or two others for the sake of SL, but if I do it will be under my RL name (which also happens to be my Uru forums ID) and not the SL one.

Of course Lewis doesn't say in this post that he is the 'owner' of SL Stratics and therefore has a teensy tiny conflict of interest when recommending it. From: Lewis Nerd Stratics all the way, no question about it. One observation is that pretty much all the alternative forums are duplicating each other in terms of the gamut of forum topics in each, when clearly each is developing their own particular character.
Perhaps it might serve to create a stronger identity for each forum if administrators focused on their particular strengths, possibly even paring down the topics that play little part in the life of their particular forum.
Doing this might give more point to the existance and use of all of the alternative forums by more of the residents rather than each developing into an insular clique.
Maybe someone could host a "meta-forum", the "rants" would connect to one site, the "newbie help" to another, the "scripting" to another and so on to create a single, networked forum structure with a centralised entry point and even thread title feeds.
Still clutching at straws in the hope of retaining some sense of a unified community...

If you like topics and posts from users with an I.Q. barely over 40 I suggest forums.secondcitizen.com . Examples: http://forums.secondcitizen.com/showthread.php?t=2250http://forums.secondcitizen.com/showthread.php?t=2025

awww... CJ *hugs*... Let me suggest something to SC about a database of other boards. FIC is pretty cool -- he might do somethng like that.
