So if LL does bring this to a RL court, does anyone think we will hear about it? Court procedings are public record. If and when it gets to court, anyone paying attention will be aware. _____________________

Benzo Kenzo? I remember that daft black-and-yellow avatar hanging out in the forest sandbox. I just muted him cos he was hassling me non-stop while i was trying to have a bit of quality time with my favourite fire dragoness.

Please set an example
12-12-2005 18:52
Unless we want to see repeats of this indefinitely, I'd advise to make an example of this person by seeking real world penalties. One good way to establish expectations with folks is to set forth reasonable consequences for actions and then TO FOLLOW THROUGH.
Follow through is key. Remember: however much crap you're willing to put up with? That's how much you'll get. Only, LL, in this instance, you = us. _____________________

Just want to throw my two cents in and say I agree with all the calls for tougher penalties for these kinds of things. If this was malicious and not just a catastrophic "oops" then LL needs to start pressing charges and suing for damages.

...and I'll never understand why we don't hear about the consequences for perpetrators of this kind of attack. Why don't we find out who they are? Why aren't we told the consequences they will face?
I remember quite well what it felt like when the teacher told me to go stand in the corner in front of the whole class when I was yapping too much. My classmates' giggling and Schadenfreude was much greater punishment than anything my teachers and/or parents could come up with. What ever happened to good old DISCLOSURE? Public flogging, anyone? Nah, don't tell me we live in a civilized society. WE DON'T. _____________________

If this was malicious and not just a catastrophic "oops" then LL needs to start pressing charges and suing for damages. Criminal prosecution is certainly called for as well as civil suits, byt as I just said in another thread on the subject, it's not just LL who should be suing. All of us who have businesses in SL should be seeking damages as well, especially if any of the content loss from this attack becomes permanent. If the content is recovered, which I'm sure it will be, at the very least we should sue for lost business. It's not like any one of us can prove loss beyond a few dollars for an outage of a few hours or a day or so, but string a few thousand of us together in a class action and we can certainly make life very unpleasant for anyone who attacks the grid. _____________________

Was good ol Benzo part of any groups? When it first hit Bishop, I took some screenshots of the things and checked the profile quick. As I remember (but I was a little busy returning objects and setting auto-return) it was a December account, very recent (think last day or two if I recall correctly). There was no groups, no SL or RL profile text or pictures. When I decided to check again maybe 10-15 minutes later, the av was no longer in Find. |

So if LL does bring this to a RL court, does anyone think we will hear about it? As far as I know criminal proceedings are public record. I'd think you could find out if you knew how to use the resources. I think there are probably a few attornies here that could tell us how. |

I can tell you how. You submit a request for information to the applicable law enforcement agency through the Public Information Act. You do the same with the prosecuting agency. _____________________
