This thread is to discuss plans and provide feedback for our entry in the State of Play MMORPG Design Competition. Our team of volunteers looks pretty solid, but everyone is welcome to help. What it looks like so far. We must submit our entry by Sept 28 2005. Administrivia - Satchmo Description of Pulbic Space - Ulrika Video Capture - Satchmo Video Editting - Kendra I plan on taking some video this week as well as next week during the Expo. Kendra is going to assemble the video and do a voice over that adheres to Ulrika's document. Ulrika also plans to spruce up the website to make sure all of our documents are easily available to judges. Any ideas, questions, general feedback?

I think it would be nice to have as many avatars in the footage as possible to help reinforce the community theme. Perhaps we could schedule a time for a shoot and have a few of us log in as actors for the filming. I volunteer myself. ~Ulrika~

OK OK, just messing with video capture today. When I'm comfortable we'll set a time and date for shooting footage.

Only just caught up with this - been busy with a Katrina Relief event. I'll volunteer for pretty much anything, so dancing in a dirndl is a doddle for me

UT-OH... RL is closing in around me... How does Tuesday evening sound for video recording? I was thinking between the time frames of 2pm-8pm... that will be my last chance to capture video before Sept 26th, and the submission is due on the 28th. If we could capture video this Tuesday, then it gives Kendra a week to work on editting the video.
Can anyone pledge to be there on Tuesday around those times?

I'll be in-world Tuesday 2 PM - 5 PM or so (running another Thinker's meeting, but afterwards, I'm free).

Reading about times in several threads. I am always a bit confused what timezone is meant and what time it would mean in Germany.
Is there any rule which timezone your are using when you say 2pm?
I could be online after 7pm (GMT+1).

Hi Melina Yes, we usually talk about "game time" (the hour that is displayed at the top right corner on the SL window) which is usually Pacific Standard Time (PST).

I can probably be there at those times Satch. At least part of that time at any rate. I'll know more for certain tomorrow morning. But yes, I should be available some.

Do you need us in world continuously during those times? If not I can make the later times without a problem. If you do need us continuously, I'll only be able to make a subset of those times due to demands on time at home.
I'll also began transferring documents over to the server and I'll have a draft of the write up done by the end of the week.

Same here, really. I can manage to stay up until 1 am without too much difficulty - that would be to 5 pm game time.

I'm really sorry I dropped the ball on the video capturing. Either I wasn't available when I had the resources or didn't have the resources when I was available. I was going to try and capture video today before I left town (til Monday), but now my doggie is going in for surgery today and I can't stay late at the office.
This doesn't mean we can't submit an entry though... suggestions:
1) Can someone else do video capture? 2) Put together a number of still frames (screenshots) in iMovie, and send them a slideshow with voice-over 3) Submit screenshots.
2 & 3 have the advantage of being more flexible around others time schedules.

Eep! My windows machine has been decommissioned since I've purchased a new Apple G5, so I no longer have access to Fraps. Is there another way without using hardware capture that one can record SL video on a Mac, Satchmo?

We poor Mac users are apparently FRAPS-less, but we can still try this application. Of course, I don't have the slightest idea on how "good" it is (compared to the one built-in into SL).

I'll combine with Still shots and do a sort of Ken Burns thingie. It's easier for me anyways since I'm doing the editing anyways. Please send screenshots to me at my e-mail addy --as many as you like

Even if we are only all together for a little bit. And I'll be happy to walk around taking random shots when I can get in world later.

~Ulrika~ Trying to rap my head around this deadline --The film is due on what day? I need to fiddle around with Snapz Pro a little and see what works for me --so I'll need a couple of days before I can begin shooting.
