Here is a link of my own; I like these people:- Great link, Selador, the Hubbell Residence is especially beautiful. I love seeing things like this: homes that are more unusual, more personal, with shapes that seem more a part of the surroundings. Architecture that goes beyond boxes and traditional forms-- fascinating. _____________________

Thanks, Ilianexsi. And thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread - it has provided a wealth of interesting links, and taught me a lot. I'd never even heard of Hundertwasser, but instantly fell in love with his work.

Upside down pyramid in Riyadh Saudi Arabia
05-23-2006 19:07
http://www.johnmartin.com/projects/office/015.htm
When we lived there people called this building "The Enterprise", because it resembled the sucer section of the Starship Enterprise. When I become a big time land barron in Sl I intend build something that looks like it. ![]() |

Ha! Upside Down caught my eye because of my little place in Olive.
The upside down pyramid reminded me of the Dallas City Hall building. Not that it is upside down, just reminded me of it. This building was the main headquarters in the movie, Robocop. They changed it with artwork and added additional floors on top to make it a skyscraper. Adding onto or changing RL builds slightly could easily be done in SL to make your place unique. ![]() |

The Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland by Gehry, when I first saw it the first thing that sprang to mind was SL.

![]() the sunbreeze house was featured prominently in Dwell magazine, as part of a feature on prefab homes. my wife and i are actually considering buying one in the next couple of years, if it becomes available in our area (D.C. metro). pretty much anything you seen in Dwell seems like it would belong in SL. it's my favorite mag. ![]() for now, we're moving into a new apartment in about a month. i'm going to recreate the interior floorplan and such in SL, so we can plan what we need to buy as far as furniture and paint and things like that. should be pretty neat! |

The PetFall will probably disappear today the 17th.,, We took down the house piece by piece a couple of weeks ago - and felt that our new life was coming up... But tears was of course dropping down my face,., /Tina NNNNOOOOOOOooooooo.... the pics of your rendition of Falling Water are beautiful. Such a shame to hear that it's gone. When I played the Sims (not online) I built a version of FLW's Dream House, I think it was done in the 50s for Better Homes and Gardens. Beautiful Usonian style, and nice and compact. Maybe one day I'll build it here. TonyRockyHorror... I agree, anything in Dwell or on MocoLoco would be great in SL. |

Arcosanti is a natural for SL-RL.
I saw Paolo Soleri in 1979 at a small lecture. It was the first time I'd heard of him. After the lecture he sold bells to raise money for Arcosanti. He's quite an amazing architect. _____________________

architect building on campus
05-26-2006 08:33
I work in the architect building on a college campus. From the front it doesn't look too different. once inside tho.. you immediately notice that that half the building is hollowed out in the middle all the way to the ceiling. perfect for flying access to the different levels! hehe

Beachfront or Waterfront Designs anyone?
02-22-2007 03:20
Great thread Loki some truly inspirational material. Gaudi is my own personal favourite but I think I would rather employ someone to do it rather than attempt all those organic curves and shapes myself.
I have just bought a waterfront plot and am looking for a good design/inspiration to place there. The land slopes down to the water and has great views; so some form of stepped terracing/balcony in a 120 degree arc would be starting point. Anyone have any suggestions or pics? Regards Sy Beck |

SL architecture can break free of RL too
02-22-2007 07:24
SL buildings are free from gravity, seems to me that can be used to great effect in SL. I'm
pretty new in SL, and am puzzled by the fact that just about all the buildings I've seen have support columns and walls. Floating buildings can appear to soar, simple platforms connected with ramps that float at different levels can be magical, I've found in my own experiments. If only Frank Lloyd Wright and Buckminster Fuller had had access to SL, I would have loved to see what they might have done to stretch things to the limit. I wonder if Soleri and other architects alive now are exploring SL's gravity free possibilities. That said, the links to RL buildings in this thread are great inspiration, all the same. The feeling of architecture, the esthetic heart of things is beyond the realm of gravity in a way. Our RL roots support our esthetic SL and RL branches. |

Infrared, the house used to sit on a private sim with restricted access - with respect to the owner of the sim, it is currently sitting in my inventory.
Sy, I personally would not put a Gaudi near the waterfront, but it's your land . I plan on making Adalberto Libera's house for Malaparte which was built on waterfront cliffs overlookoing ocean's of Salerno and might be fantastic for your site. Casa Malaparte is one of the most beautiful houses ever made - if done "right" in SL, would be fantastic! |

Well if it's ever possible I would love to take a walk through...it's an astounding model of it. As a FLW devotee the Robie House is probably my second favorite house to Falling Water, which must also be somewhere in SL. Cheers, IR |

I'd love to see some SL work based on the RL architechture of Roger & Martyn Dean, whose work you may recognize from countless concert stages and Yes album covers. Their ideas on organic non-linear structures dig deeply into providing a more instinctually save environment for people to live in. And if they're not in SL already, trying to bring this about, someone needs to get in touch with them and let them know what they're missing out on.
There's an article on their ratherunique brand of buildings here: http://radio.weblogs.com/0119080/stories/2003/04/28/galleryTheClassicRockRealm.html |

![]() This isn't the best picture, but the Ohio Historical Society building in Columbus, Ohio, is by far the strangest building I have ever been inside in real life. It's like a giant pizza box held up in the air by an impossibly small concrete base. Whoever built that (I guess, back in the 70's) had balls. _____________________

great thread! i forgot about this one, i'll have to bookmark it and peruse everything posted.
i really like r.m. schindler's lovell beach house (from the first post) and made a house inspired by it. i haven't done any straight replicas but i admit to strong influence! i love looking at pics of modernist houses for inspiration, and even old, crumbling buildings with all that charm. i think sl lends itself well to modernism. with simple, clean shapes the prims seem made for that kind of work. which is why they look like they belong here. _____________________
