Lately I've been intrigued with the creation of prim shoes and have been ripping apart several shoes to see how they are created. I'm amazed at the details and imagination put into some of these shoes -- definitely inspires me to create my own designs. Tho right now I'm still at the learning stages and experimenting with prim shapes.
There are some shoes that have a script placed on a bottom layer (the part that touches the ground) which is also on an invisible/transparent prim of sorts -- sorry really dont know how to explain this better. =/
My questions are:
1. What is the purpose of this script?
2. Is there a relationship to _thickness_ of the transparent/invisible layer and script that is used. Mind you its not on the visible prim that you see touching the ground.
3. Is there a free one out there that I can experiment with, or do I need to get one specially made by a scripter. If so, what is this scrpt called?
Any links to tutorials will be appreciated. *my apologies if this isn't the right category for this post*
Thanks!

From: Eispoo Vezina 1. What is the purpose of this script? If they are ladies', I guess the scrpt is an animation overrider for sexy walks. Isn't there also an animation file together? Or a color changer? From: Eispoo Vezina 2. Is there a relationship to _thickness_ of the transparent/invisible layer and script that is used. Mind you its not on the visible prim that you see touching the ground. Not mind, but it must be the root prim. I believe that the center of the objects is the best positon where the root prim is. And whenever you put something into an object's inventory, it is entered into the root prim by default. From: Eispoo Vezina 3. Is there a free one out there that I can experiment with, or do I need to get one specially made by a scripter. If so, what is this scrpt called? If you found the script, you should have seen the script file's name, shouldn't you? I don't think you dare to have it. Sorry, I don't know if there are free ones or not.

From: Eispoo Vezina 1. What is the purpose of this script? I think you might be referring to the invisiprim script - its purpose is to hide parts of the foot mesh that poke through the prims. If you try making a non-prim high-heel shoe, you'll see that the "heel" part often looks pretty weird, and is often too thick to be hidden by prims, especially if you want to do a stiletto type heel. The invisiprim script hides any avatar bodypart that is behind (or inside) the prim; it also hides prims whose textures have an alpha part (transparent cut-out) and the version I have hides prims set to shiny. From: someone 2. Is there a relationship to _thickness_ of the transparent/invisible layer and script that is used. Mind you its not on the visible prim that you see touching the ground. Not that I know of; the invisiprim script should work with any shape or size of prim. From: someone 3. Is there a free one out there that I can experiment with, or do I need to get one specially made by a scripter. If so, what is this scrpt called? I got my invisibility script copy from Dwellget (in the Taco sim).

Thank you for the responses -- I think Jackal Ennui may have come close to what I was asking.
In response to Seagel Neville post: - There's no animation file to the shoe/color changer. - The script name did says "Inv" ....I just didn't know the reason for it.
Additional Info:
The shoe I am referring to is actually a Men's Boot from Beckenbauer Productions. I love their designs and detailing and have 5 to my collection.
Another boot that I pulled apart is from another designer/creator. It's not as detailed but the design of it is closer to my style. Also the bottom invisible prim is a thin _single prim_ with the invisibility script. Compared to the Beckenbauer shoe which is made up of several invisible prims. I guess this has to do with the creators personal style.
Eventually my future goal would be to design shoes that would compliment my style. I love detail but not much into spikes or too much boot straps, silver/chrome.

Do everyone a favor and remove your invis scripts after they run, or just use:
llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName());
after setting the alpha.
Hell... if you are sure it's just an alpha script, delete them out of the shoes you buy, and while i'm at it ... remove the script after setting texture animations and particles that are active constantly. all this stuff is a property of the prim once set and won't go away, excepting when you shift-drag a copy you'll have to drop the script in the new copy. Rezzing from inventory or transferring the item still will leave the effect active on the prim though.
All these scripts contribute a small amount to script time and they do add up. Ever seen a candle with 12 texture animation scripts that do absolutely nothing once they run once, but still add a small amount of script time to the sim? Very annoying and completely uneccesary. Waterfall makers take note here too heh. I see this everywhere.

Free Invisi Script

Yes, there is. I'm on SL a lot. I have the script in script form, and in prim form. IM me, and I'll send you both. They were provided by another woman on one of the forums as a helping agent, so I will just pass on the help.

/8/39/25130/1.html is where the author of the standard InvisiPrim script describes what it is and how it works.

That's good to know. I was wondering why my prims were still invisible even after I took the invis script out. If that creates to some un-needed processing time then I'll certainly remove them. Even if you take out the invis script and then copy the prim, the copy will also be invisible. A lot of shoes being sold are not modifiable and the script they contain can't be removed or even examined.

From: Quarrel Kukulcan /8/39/25130/1.html is where the author of the standard InvisiPrim script describes what it is and how it works. That invis prim is awful, a script to alternate between two different transparent textures.... compeltely unneeded and a waste of resources. Drop this into a script, and put it in the prim you want invis, it will delete itself out of the prim after it does it's business. Doesnt hurt to blank out the texture also, but I dont have that on here because sometimes that is not desired. default { state_entry() { llSetAlpha(0.0, ALL_SIDES); llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName()); } }

This script will turn only the prim itself transparent. The invisiprim script that was referenced a couple of posts ago actually renders any avatar part (and alpha textures) inside or behind the prim invisible.

Thank you all for the excellent responses.
As a new resident to the SL environment, I'm slowly familiarizing myself with the 'lingo' associated with SL -- the overall social aspect as well as building/designing/scripting categories.
I constantly re-read posts trying to comprehend and understand what's being said. I know it's all part of the learning process and you all have been a great help.
Thanks for posting the InvisiPrim script link and the other script.
jessika Taggart - I'll contact you in world for the scripts! Thanks! =)

From: Eispoo Vezina Thanks for posting the InvisiPrim script link and the other script. Note, the posted link is to thread 2 year old, so quite obviously the content became rather outdated (the prim cannot be found there anymore, e.g) link to more recent thread with nice version of the script that renders prim it's dropped into in invisi-prims and actually cleans after itself leaving no script junk in the shoes: /54/63/44186/1.html#post468050
