UPDATE 2007-07-08: The info below is outdated. You can find current invisiprim info here:

-----

If you're wondering what an invisibility prim (or invisiprim) is, it's a prim with a special texture that makes any avatars and alpha textures inside or behind it invisible. I've been using this for my digitigrade fox legs (to cover up the av's hyooman legs) for several months, and it works beautifully. Av designers such as Psyra Extraordinaire have also been using it in their avs to great effect. And it's free for anyone to copy and modify as they please. :D

Invisibility Prim Public v1.1 is now up. It and all subsequent copies will alternate between 2 invisibility textures every 30 seconds, synchronized with the SL clock. If you are currently using v1.0, I highly recommend you get the new invisiprim and replace the refresh script in your existing invisiprims with the new script. This wil ensure that the prims refresh correctly when 2 or more people in the same area are using them.

Here is a copy of the notecard included with the prim:

INVISIBILITY PRIM PUBLIC v1.1

This scripted prim is free for anyone to copy and edit as they please. You can credit me if you really feel like it, but you don't have to by any means. I'm providing this because I occasionally hear of requests for such an item, and I know there's people out there who would charge exorbitant L$ for something that really isn't that hard to make (if you know how).

How It Works

SL has a few special system textures that are only accessible by UUID key and that possess properties which no other textures do. Namely, a prim using one of these textures is capable of rendering whatever avatar textures and textures containing alpha channels are inside or behind it completely invisible. Normal textures that do not contain alpha channels will remain untouched. This is useful for hiding part or all of an avatar while keeping non-alpha attachments visible. Great for creating digitigrade legs, skeletons, Rayman -- the sky's the limit!

Note that water and trees are alpha textures, and as such will be hidden by invisibility prims. Also, the sky behind such a prim may appear just a tad discolored. In addition, shiny/bumpy objects will appear non-shiny/bumpy, although they will still be visible.

About the Refresh Script -- CHANGED IN v1.1

The invisibility textures can be a little quirky, and frequently they will make more than just avatars and alpha textures invisible. Something to do with the texture loading order -- I don't fully understand it myself. Anyway, the refresh script fixes that by automatically alternating between 2 different invisibility textures every 30 seconds. It's synchronized to the SL clock so that all copies of this prim (Invisibility Prim Public v1.1, NOT v1.0) will refresh at the same time. It's a good idea to leave the script unmodified, since if there are any invisiprims in the current render-area that use the same invisibility textures but do not have the default refresh timing, the refresh may not work properly.

Have fun!

Hi Miles :D

Yes I saw you wearing a copy of the invisi box, the masking on it was very good :D I too would like to copy it (if it would let me)

Woo, you go guy. ;)

Once there's a moddable version that won't turn my legs into No-Mod... I'll definately update. You should have a donation box at your house there. :)

What ever happened to the public domain script that had settings for all the varias (known) types of invisibility? Used to be able to set to it mask avatars, regular prims, or other things...

My bad... the notecard inside was set to no-copy. It should be fixed now.

Psyra, try this one out and see whether it still makes your objects no-mod. I suspect that was also a side-effect of the aforementioned oversight.

I want to say thank you to Beatfox for making this available. I've made a couple of halloween avatars that use the script - one is a devil and the other is a ghost. It's a really neat trick!

Oh if you want either of the avatars they are available for free at the Numbakulla island (this is where I've been doing my building and the owner said I could put them out for people to pick up as it's being decorated for Halloween).

I wasn't able to find anything at the Tilitr location, but I did find the Invisible Prim Public by going to a store that sold Beatfox's windchimes, namely: Lusk 142, 164, 27.

Sometimes it's a good thing to resurrect posts from the dead. I found this in a $1 box and it's awesome - however, there's someone selling it at multiple yard sales for over $100 to people who have never seen this post and thus aren't aware that it's available free. I hate it when people do that.

You can wear them, and they'll make your base avatar invisible.

Where do we get it?
06-25-2007 13:36
Ok, I've been to the address mentioned in the original post. Nothing there of any interest.

So where do we get this invisiprim?

Does this still work in current clients?
