What's the difference between the traditional rod-shaped building arrows and the new ones that look like triangles?

A link to a thread that already explains this is an acceptable answer, if available.

Thanks in advance :)

the new ones automatically snap you along the grid, the old ones allow free movement unless you pull your mouse up to the grid, then it snaps. I think.

I dunno if there is anything else about them, but thats how it seems to behave for me.

the old ones work on 1 axis and the new ones work on 2 axis. in other words the new ones are XY, XZ and YZ. i don't think they automatically snap unless you have "Use Grid" checked.

Zuzi is correct. Think of the old arrows as axial constrants and the new ones as planar constraints. In other words, if you grab the old red arrow, you can move an object only along the X axis. If you grab the new red/green triangle, you can move the objact in any direction on the XY plane.

Chosen, could you go over to: /8/50/41058/1.html
and tell them those names?
I think the latest names theyve come up with are: " Two Black Arrows on A Green and Blue Background handle", "The one in back that you often can't see or is obscured by the blue arrowhead", and: "the little triangle thingies".
I like your names better.

:)
