Regarding the new handles that allow motion constrained to one plane: what is the name to call these handles? I am getting tired of typing "Constrain to Plane Handles", it is making me think of "The Rain In Spain Stays Mainly In The Plains" and calling them Constraint Handles sounds kinda kinky to me, and callling them Plane Handles sounds like one is referring to the plain old handles that i used to call arrowheads?

How about 2D handles?
(Which unfortunately, kinda sounds like Malibu Barbie's bra size...) |

How about CTP Handles? Err - well it's just a suggestion. C2P? Um. Ok, I dunno what to really call them, but I agree that it's a pain to type "Constrain to Plane" and I worry that just typing "little arrows" won't be very clear. LOL. _____________________

"gizmos" is what the 3D modeller Maya calls them. Of course, "plane constraint handles" works too, but "axis transform handles" ("transform" being the broad classification for translation--position, rotation, and scaling) might be a better term and is more descriptive, and cooler-sounding, than "gizmos".

X arrow, Y arrow, Z arrow. Red arrow, green arrow, blue arrow.
Sorry, I just... had to. ![]() "Constrained axes" also works. _____________________

The arrows on the "two colored triangle things" are black.

Jeffrey, I think that Red, Blue, and Green arrows would be misleading, because the arrows on the contrain to plain handles are black. Each ctp handle has a set of two black arrows perpendicular to one another, and each of them has two different colors of triangles making up the background. There are some axis displays with conical arrowhead indicators , but those are not the ones I am talking about., and I suspect that calling things that are not Red, Blue, and Green arrows by those terms when there are things that are Red Blue and Green arrows nearby, and which are already called by those names by some, might possibly be a bit confusing.
Since there are two black arrows on each, terms such as Two Black Arrows on A Green and Blue Background handle, Two Black Arrows on Blue and Red Background Handle, and "The one in back that you often can't see or is obscured by the blue arrowhead" might be understandable. I have heard someone called them "the little triangle thingies" which seems ok. I like "love handles" which makes no sense but would be fun to say but there is already a love handle slider in the appearance editor. _____________________

I call the old ones axial constraint handles and the new ones planar constraint handles. That's simple enough I think.

... and calling them Constraint Handles sounds kinda kinky to me... You say that like it's a bad thing... ![]() I suppose I should probably get in-world sometime and actually see these new features. ![]() _____________________

We could call them what Chose Few calls them, which is what everybody in real life already calls them.... Please, dont make this more simple than it needs to be. If we cant have a fourteen word long descriptor for these things, than all is lost. _____________________

As in the issues database:
ID: 154 PREVIEW GRID Summary: Objects do not snap to grid Priority: P2 Status: Closed Description: Previous version had the object snapping to a grid while moving if the Tools->Snap was set. It is not exhibiting this behavior in 1.6 Workaround: snap works with the new prim dragging tabs. (little triangular things seen near the selected prim) So that's what they're called? _____________________

Only by that person who entered the bug. Better names have already been suggested. I like mine best though: axis transform handles.

How about "planar contraining two-dimensional object translation handles" (P.C.T.D.O.T.H.)?
Or just planar handles. _____________________
