1st ANNUAL SECOND LIFE AWARDS 2007

Building Tips might not be the right section for this thread, so I reposted it here.

FORWARD
I am Nase Sleeper. Currently working (volunteering) for Pleasure Semple on a non-profit project. Second Life Awards. I am posting all of Pleasure's ideas here as he forwarded to me:

INTRODUCTION
Annual Second Life Awards
As this is only the first time, the only category is:
Most Beautiful Place in Second Life.

(Perhaps we will eventually have more categories such as coolest gadget, best outfit, most beautiful skin for m or f, best avatars, most fun place, etc. For now, we are only doing this one category.)

NOMINATION RULES
Please submit in this thread the place you would like to nominate for Most Beautiful Place in Second Life.
Nominations are open until Sunday 3/18.
Property may be any size from small to multiple sims.
You may post screenshots here, but not necessary.
Parcel should be open to the public. Parcel cannot have limited access or charge a free for access.

(Please try to look for the following: Striking design. Clean environment. Ease of access. Mobility. Low on lag. Sound effects/ambient music.)

After the most beautiful places nominees are compiled, we will create a thread with a poll.
Members may vote over the course of one week.

CEREMONY
As of now, there is yet no plans for any ceremony. If we do have one, we might talk to the winner, and possibly hold the ceremony on their winning parcel. All nominees will be invited, and the event will be posted. If we decide not to have a ceremony, the winner will simply be announced.

REWARDS
The winner will receive a "Simple Pleasure Hover Pack".

NOMINEES
(As you post you submission, I will add nominees to this list.)
Damania
Avilion Grove
Lost Furest at Sables d'Alliez
Sanctum Sanctorium
Zimmer
Midsomer Isle
Gardens of Bliss
Mill Pond
the ocean

Thank you for your participation. I appreciate your interest in voting for the most beautiful place. And thank you for making SL the best place it can be by building better and more beautiful content.

I discovered a place called Damania, which is on a 2-sim island. It is a sort of futuristic arcade with some luxury rental houses nearby . There is a unified theme throughout. Everything is built in white marble and what looks like polished copper and brass (or even gold, maybe?)

Damania is like nothing else I've seen in SL so far - the build quality is superb as are the aesthetics, although a lot of objects are repeated - nothing wrong with that!

My nomination goes to Avilion Grove. The ballroom there is absolutely gorgeous and the surroundings grounds and gardens are a delight no matter how many times I see them.

Mine would have to be for the new Lost Furest at Sables d'Alliez. Open spaces, beautiful landscaping, an all encompassing theme. It's just beautiful.

I should say that I am friends with the folks that did it, in the interest of fairness, and that I'm a little baised.

It really is lovely, though.

I would like to selfishly nominate my own sim Zimmer. It may be simple but the clean open space and consistent theme is refreshing for the mainland.

Lost Gardens, but...

I think you should limit this thread to places that don't restrict access. Recently, I tried to show a newbie the Lost Gardens of Apollo and was shocked to realize that they had recently limited entry by payment status. You'll get a lot of ticked off and frustrated visitors, otherwise.

Good idea. Thanks. I'm not sure what has gotten into them charging members for access, but the residents know that there are alot of beautiful places around that are open for them without cost.

I didn't mean that they are charging an access fee, I meant they restrict entry to "payment status verified". Whatever you think of the pros/cons of allowing free registration, it's to no-one's benefit to have a list of most beautiful places that many residents can't get to.

THE LOST GARDENS OF APOLLO: Griefers versus access

Hello Nase, hello fellow residents!

I'd like to correct a misunderstanding. But first I'd like to thank those who have nominated my sim. I am honoured and humbled. Thank you!

Now, regarding access to Apollo: The (shortlived) access restriction of "No payment info" residents was put into effect for a few days only. The decision was made after a day (and evening) of horrors, with griefer after griefer terrorizing the sim, the other visiting guests and my staff. All of which were "No payment info", recently created, and made my SIM ban list swell to nearly double its size in a matter of hours. So, in order to calm things down, let my staff have a rest, and stop my IM window from ringing like a fire alarm, I made that decision, and did a sim restart.

Immediately, calm and peace came to Apollo yet again.

To let it "sink in" with those individuals who obviously were so bored out of their minds that they had nothing better to do than terrorize an otherwise very peaceful sim (and other innocent people), I kept the access restrictions on for a few days, and then reinstated full access. I "paid" for that decision with a dramatic drop in traffic by some 30 percent, so it was not an easy one to uphold.
Apollo has had full access again for almost a week now, and will continue to have that. I realize I risk tipping off any number of bored griefers by writing in here, but that's just a chance I have to take...

I would hate for everyone to think I restricted access for any other reason. But sometimes, options are limited, when handling griefing, and an avatar's gotta do, what an avatar's gotta do! ;) The well being of the majority of my visitors has always been closest to my heart.

Please, be my guests at Apollo. It was always meant to be shared with the entire community.

Thank you for your time and understanding,

Sincerely yours

Dane Zander :)

I will selfishly nominate The Botanical Gardens, even though the sim is still in final phase of completion, it is open to visitors already though.

Paradise d'Alliez should be on the voting list. It's an enchanting, lush, beautiful nature sim. It has wonderful secluded spots for relaxing, has great views and is just a well developed sim all around.
