Hey all, this is somewhat of a continuation of the "Trains" thread under General Discussion ( /120/48/8231/1.html ). As the effects of trying to extend the GSLR start affecting more folks, I thought it was time to form the GSLR as a proper SL group. Got a cheery logo too!

Contact us if you'd like to help, or need our help! While the GSLR is currently one continuous railway in Slate and Magenta (and maybe Maroon soon!), I hope to provide a package of track, structures, rolling stock, and scripts "some day."

The motto of the group might well be Horam Expecta Veniet — "Await the Hour Will Come." More soon!

Now with more news ... the GSLR extends to the Periwinkle border. Our thanks to the Maroon residents who helped with this! There must be over 500 meters of standard-gauge railway in Second Life by now ... probably a record for virtual worlds not dedicated to railway-only simulation!

Will i be able to roll physical logs off of Cornelious's hose and derail the train?

Blocking the track is something we're expecting. It'd be nice if the script deals with the problem in an amusing way.

... hmm, hopefully not so amusing as to attract train-wreckers!

Cori Sunshine got some nice publicity in the New World Notes yesterday, yay!

We're currently expanded to the Crimson edge of Indigo, and a bit into Purple. Thanks to all the cooperative residents who've made this possible so far! We'll post up a list here soon, for all to feel in awe of.

I saw a bit railway and a train the other day. This game and its players continue to astound me on a daily basis.

Really nice work all :)

I love this idea, and I hope the railway can cross as much of the SL world as possible!!! (save for some of the more 'natural' sims perhaps)

The GSLR would like to thank Viper Ritter for the very nice and timely provision for our right-of-way over Maroon. We now have quite a long straight stretch of track into Periwinkle.

Does the public have any particular periods or regions of railway equipment they'd like to see modelled by our staff?

How about a missing segment of the track with the two separated ends elevated slightly? When the train gets to that point in the track, it hops from one end to the other, lands successfully, and continues on its way. :D

I prosume that as the train comes it signals the bridge to go down? or does it stop? or worse does it go into the air flying off it like a giant ramp :P ?

Would love to help with the train project if i only had time for it (have 2 other big projects going)

The drawbridge will be signalled by the train to descend automatically ... however, our train will be a physical object or set of objects, so expect some crashes at various places!

We've been test running the trolley on our track in Magenta ... and had a battle with an attack helicopter! Hmm, maybe we could put up an armored train for crossing Jessie!

Fear not, the shiny white RAIL prims you see currently will turn invisible by the time we start running trains.

We've established a dock at the Umber edge of Purple, and are considering running a seagoing ferry/cruise service around the island sims. We're also negotiating with the good folk of Mocha for some right-of-way there.

Keep an eye on this space ... the GSLR scripters have been making great progress!

@-@ Need hourly noisy freight trains that halt traffic for at least half of an hour. I'd feel really at home then. (come on, who places a railroad directly between a townhouse complex and a convinience store? o_o)

Phinz Phaeton, our lead scripter, is being savagely beaten every day, in an attempt to spur him on to faster and better work! He promises "soon" for test runs. Grr.

All that white or plywood colored stuff on the tracks will be made transparent once we're done testing, thank goodness.

I've been working on some more locomotives and rolling stock for when we eventually can run 'multi-part' trains.

We may run a ferryboat service from our Plum station, south into the island sims.

Hmm, with the conversion of Umber to a mountain, I guess the eastern end of the railway will revert to being a pier. We're also keeping an eye out in Olive ... if those Olive Pit people ever blink, we'll be all over their land!

Athos - This is most likely a bit too late, but if you need any more help with the railway I'd be glad to help. Being an avid train lover in RL doesnt hurt either ROFL. I'm also working on another project that involves a railroad.

Anyway, keep up the great work, I cant wait to see her finished :)

How about making the train go underground through Jessie? Like a subway?
