Hee. Always wanted to make a ground vehicle that actually 'walks' But that's about as hard as making an RL version of the same. :>

On other points of this thread, I can't see a lot of future commitment if someone gets upset and quits SL because they can't make one specific thing. :/

My main character's a Behir... sort of a cross bewteen a wingless dragon and a centipede. If I can't make a Behir, I'm sure not gonna quit over it. :>

That's exactly what I'm building, and it's working now :) I discovered that SL sets scripts you drop in prims to "not running" without telling, so although I had 8 scripts only one was running at the time.

It can't be done, i've tryed it & it's impossible to make a giant AV on SL, nor will it be possible , there just aren't enough Macrophiles on SL to have this 'feature' added onto it....

In fact i'm gonna take a vacation from SL 'till this becomes possible, i've allready wasted too much L$ on trying to get this done mostly on my own too....

Congrats :)

I have a correction for my own attempt: it is NOT working, and I can't understand what's going wrong. At one step it was working fine and now it's not. What the heck can be wrong with:

one script calls llWhisper(channel, (string)llGetPos());
the other script gets mesg in listen event: llSetPos((vector)mesg);

Why does it halves the position ? Why the same code applied to rotations simply does _nothing_ ?

Nope....
What I had made is more like a giant robot then anything else....
Now if it was fully articulated, then i'd be wrong....
So, nope, I still stand by observation....

----------------------------------------------

Psyra, I left not because I couldn't make it, I left for an entirely diffrent reason then that....
Let's just say I felt as if I was going through the same problems that forced me to move on FM into my own area away from everyone else, as I don't have the RL $ to have my own area on SL away from everyone else, well there you go....

But what if you want to make it smaller?
01-25-2005 20:08
Would you also use a custom anim to make something smaller? Lower the av height, etc? I think you'd really need scripted rotations for the limbs, though. You might be able to get one set to sort of line up, eg legs, but the other set would be connected to completely the wrong place.

I still have in mind that I'd like to have a cat av, someday. (No, not an anthropomorphic cat, just a cat.) I expect that would have to be completely scripted. Maybe sometime next year I'll try it.

Well, as partially inanimate as it was, your AV was good. I've pondered making a larger phoenix, but I think it's at the biggest it'll get without needing custom anim stuff... :>

Custom anims
01-26-2005 17:39
There lays the problem Psyra.....

Because offset anims get more offset the larger you make something you need custom anims to comensate for the wildly moveing lims that are drifting apart as the offset doesn't take into account to move in smaller acrs the larger something is or something along those lines....

It's like you need highly customized anims along w/ a giant body script [ if there was such a thing ] to achive anything over a certain size, this goes not ony for something tall but something wide as well, like if you wanted a really large wingspan on a dragon or whatever have you....

Needless to say I hope one of these folks who knows more about scripting then I do.... I took a look at a hovering text script at one point in time, it's like greek to me..... can find a workaround or something to all this that'll sove the problems for folks who need help with this, as there may be someone who'll join in the furure who'll need this kinda help, who knows ?

I too am looking for getting a Giant avatar too, not a robot, nor do I wanna look like a robot animation wise. I want to just take the avatar as is and make it like... 10-20 ft tall, at least 10ft... and I'd be happy. though the bigger the better, but just 2 ft taller is all I'd want.

surely there has to be a script to enlarge the avatar... setscaleX==## setscaleY==## setscaleZ==## or somthing... I dunno much about scripting.. only thing I was able to script in was Marrowind... and I made my giant character on it easily. but anything else I cannot figure out...

I would also like to have a growth gun too or somthing... somthing that can allow me to adjust someone's appearance settings. make em taller or shorter or hell even bustier, or fatter or even change thier hair color... I dunno heh. But I really would like to get my giant avatar somehow... thanks.

Sorry to dig up an old post like this....

- 1.7.0.x -

Ah yes the holy grail is on it's way to save all large scaled avas....

What I know, prims will be able to be scripted to move, what this means is that lets just say offset anim leaves a LOT to be desired as when you use it everying moves rather stiffly as most of the folks that made it used it for mechs, well, that's fine & dandy if yer a mech.

If you want to be a living giant however Offset Anim isn't gonna cut it at all. Not even a little bit, so what dose this mean for folks that want to play as living giants, well that you have to wait 'till the next version of SL to come out.

Now folks who've tested 1.7.0.x preview had IM'd me saying that the whole AO thing will be replaced by this moving / animating prims by a script, after seeing samples of it in work, by going to the preview grid myself & watching it in action. I have to say well, this will work if you know scripting, if you don't you'll have to get help.

I happen to fall into the doesn't know jack about scripting catagory.

However before 1.7.0.x comes out to the open i'd figure i'll give folks the heads up & they can help me out once it does, so I can at least pass the info or just use it myself or even pay for the script that will animate my ava after all this time being rather stiff in the joints.

I do however point out before folks get macro happy that the following may happen to you as it has happened to me, you may find yourself unwanted in certain places, as folks have told certain staff that thier clients couln't handle my presance, then said staff turn around and told me that they've gotten complaints about that, at first I brushed it off as it was 1 or 2 folks that told the staff in question, after all my ava is just fine on my client, doesn't do jack to it, but it started happening on a regualr basis, I kept thinging, well, maybe I have an uber system then, nope, it's actually a low end system as far as gameing goes.

It dawned on me that what might be happening is this, folks have thier clients set to MAX, everything that can be turned on is on, why they do that in a sim that's loaded w/ avas that have tons of prims as it is, is someting I can't figure out, I set my client as low as possible as I know to set it on max would tax my system, as I can't even run RCT3 if I set it higher then the absolute min.

Yesterday came the straw that broke the camel's back, I was told a GROUP, not 1 or 2, but a GROUP of folks informed the staff that I was an issue due to them not thinking & haveing thier settings on MAX, lord only knows why, but I figured, that's it, i'm gone from this sim, that's it, i'm tired of the drama over my ava, if folks want to ruin my fun because they're too dumb to turn off all the things that WARN you that'll slow down SL if you turn these on, then they don't need me around at all, 'cause like I said, it doesn't do jack to my client.

Needless to say expect the same if you want to become a macro & visit certain sims, your macro avatar may become an issue w/ them, and it would be best to just avoid them.

Oh and I make macro avatars now, but may need to remake them once 1.7.0.x sohows it's ugly head & folks that are better at scritping then me show my the way, yadda yadda....

So far I've found that though you can script attachments to move, you can't script different parts *of* them to move independant. :(

So it still means you can't script a 'bending' knee out of a single object. DOH. Means you can't animate individual fingers on a prim hand. DOUBLE DOH. And you can't unfurl a wing with individual feathers. TRIPLE DOH.

You can do stuff like making a helicopter avvie with rotating blades, or a whale with a floppy tail, but... you're still pretty limited. :>

Top five stuff I hoped 1.7 would allow to do and it probably won't:

1. An Eastern Dragon and Quetzalcoatl with a slithery tail.
2. Properly flapping/folding bird wings.
3. Clenching toes on bird feet.
4. Smooth moving fingers on primmed hands.
5. Get rid of *@#$*@$ing invisaprims. (okay, I hoped anything would get rid of these! give us full alpha support on skins or clothes!!!)

Figures....

Well, 1.7.0.x is a step in the right direction at least, perhaps they'll add more to it as time progresses w/ each bulid after 1.7.0.x like 1.7.1 and up and up and up all the way to 1.8.0.x even =P

Maybe we'll figure something out too, who knows ?
