proposal for an undo feature

I wrote a proposal for the vote section asking for an undo feature that will undo color and texture mistakes as well as object moving and deletion mistakes. ctrl-z just isn't adequate. I once turned my entire house into a curtain texture because I forgot to click "select texture" for the individual surface I needed to re-texture and it took me the better part of an hour to re-texture and color my whole house. a one click "undo texture change" from an edit menu like in ms word would have been nice at that time....

So if you support this feature please go to the voting section and find proposal 108 and give it as many votes as you think it is worth!

Me 3.

I spent a while retexturing my whole project (entire firetruck became random sized diamondplate).

While not on par with retexturing a whole house, still very annoying...

Please go vote for this if you are in favor of it....this and another thread have several voiced yes's but my 6 votes are still the only ones. Please vote :D

What I'm looking for is a one stroke "undo your last mistake" kind of button that includes colors, textures, and deletions the way ctrl - z undoes movement and size changes.

i wish there was a progran outside of SL, that way your undo feature would be a lil better(undo more times) and not tax SL, but your own computer memory.

I like to fine turn my builds, and waiting for rezing tends to get irritating every once in a while

The current undo works kind of weird. Just today, I rotated an attachment a bit, held the mouse button down and thought for a moment, and then rotated some more. I was displeased with the new position, so I went to Undo, but it didn't go back to the original position—it went to the 1st rotation for some reason! Did this several times to confirm, I wonder if it's time-based in some way.

Also, yeah, the mistake of Apply Immediately of textures on a whole object... what a nightmare. I've seriously messed some stuff up when modding it, or had to rez a new copy. Same thing if you have an object with different Transparency values, and you select the WHOLE thing yet Transparency % isn't grayed out (like some other attributes are) to indicate that different prims have different properties. So you go ahead and select a new color, thinking it will just recolor the works, but no, it doesn't—it also makes every single prim transparent to whatever setting's in the box!

There are some inconsistencies that could stand to be tidied up.

I remember one time I was trying to highlight a 120 prim structure.. well somethin goofy happened, highlighted about half the prims and somehow managed to drag them about 20 meters away off the other half.. oh yes, that was fun to put back together :)

Also done the texture thing. Bleh

Save and revert
08-29-2005 12:04
I think what would best meet the needs here is the save and revert option usually available in text editing and programming. When you have what you like, you save. When you are about to do something risky, you save. If you don't like what happened, you revert to the saved copy. The saved copy (or copies) would be stored on your local machine to avoid loads on LL, as suggested by Langush. That would also let you keep several saved versions.

Multiple Undos would be a god send not just for textures but a history. Single Undos simply dont help you in alot of cases.

This is a modern standard in many programs, and it's a godsend indeed.

Not sure what the technical hurdles would be to putting this in SL though—like, what kind of resource overhead?

has anyone been counting?
08-29-2005 14:33
Of all the propositions made since the institution of the "voting process for features" is anyone aware of any that have actually been implemented?

I've not really been following either the votes or the "winners" so would appreciate if anyone has. I know that despite being incredibly useful, "undo" is rather hard to implement let alone get right. The "Undo" menu-item/command has been in the client since at least v1.1 but only works for one change when it chooses to work at all.

Hi, I agree an 'undo' button would sure be a big help to me. LOL, I make so many mistakes I get so frustrated at myself. Also, whats with the cams? I absolutely detest how they bounce around when youre trying to do something and you have to move them around and around only to have them 'bounce' away if you hit the wrong thing by accident.

erm, how do I get to the voting feature again? "blushes" not only do I make so many mistakes, but I get lost in the forum too.
