I own land on the edge of a sim. I've built a wall on my land near the sim edge. I notice that if I fly from the adjacent sim into my sim, then I can pass right through my wall!
I've tried this with the phantom box both checked and un-checked. I get through the wall in both cases.
If I move the wall back from the sim edge far enough, then it does stop me when I hit it (and I leave the phantom box un-checked). But when it is close to the edge (somewhere under 10 meters away), then I can get through it every time when flying from the other sim.
However if I start by standing still in my own sim (between the sim edge and the wall), and just walk at the wall, then the wall does stop me - just as I expect.
I suppose all this must have something to do with my avatar being handed off from one server to the next. Can someone explain what SL is doing here?

I think its all a matter of physics reaction time. I can pass through .2 M thick walls fairly easily if I fly straight at them with my flight assist. With a rep rate of 45 frames per second, I think I worked out once that my body can fly through in between those frames at over 100 miles per hour (no sure of the exact speed). But I can't fly through thicker walls than .2 M. So as you hinted, I think the handover period added to the physics latency allows you to go through from another sim. Some other discussion today about sim crossings: /111/0f/156802/1.html

yes, this is a problem, I had my house on a sim edge, experienced the same thing. If you can move the wall a few meters from the edge then that will no longer happen.

Nothing new about this I'm afraid. If a wall is just inside a sim edge, people can pass straight through it when approaching from the other side. I remember this issue back in May (initially I couldn't figure out why my wall was phantom when approached from one side only ) and got the impression from an ancient-oldbie that it's been an issue since the dawn of SL time.

lol well guess im not the only one with the prob
no one could tell me what it is or why
and dont think im on a sim edge ? if so how do i find out ?
mmm
but its wicked we got land at see and if for excample you are using a tube float you get stuck in the wall with the tube
if you manage to get out of the wall the tube stays there moving around in it
lol
moving walls may be an option but then question is you pay enough for the land so if move it loos size right cant use that part the way you want
any one have a fix for it ? let me know
