Totally new to building but I'm trying my best.
Can I make an S-Shape out of a single prim? Kind of as if I took two hollow cylinders cut them in half and reconnected them (one flipped over?)
Also, what are the best places for learning how to make different shapes. I tried that Library place in the game, but it was too slow for me. I've also watched different youtube videos.
Just looking for suggestions.

While the Library may be slow, it has tons of information for newer builders. Also, you can do everything at a pace you are comfortable with, as it explains in detail all the steps they take to build specific items. There is a tortured prims area there as well for doing odd things with your prims. The forums are a good place to look also, especially under the Tiny prims sticky.
Most of all, practice. Just keep doing things to the prims you have until you get something you want.

If you want to make an S out of a single prim, I'd suggest using a sculptie. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Sculpted_PrimsOtherwise, it's pretty easy to make an S out of a couple of cut and hollowed cylinders.

Sculptie S

Hi Idunna, You could try linking two torus halves to form an S. I also sell 15L sculptie shapes in my shop, and an S is amongst the selection. I normally don't link ads to discussion forums, but I made the starter sculptie set specifically for newer builders and you might find it helpful. Prim Builder

There is a cool device in SL called PRIM BUILDER (or something like that). It has a visual menu that lets you pick out just about any shape that a non-sculpty prim can make. It shows the surfaces and twists and cuts and dimples and everything.
When you find one you want, it rezzes a copy and gives it to you, which you can then modify to your liking.
Even if you don't use one, it is really fun and educational to play with.

Search for one-prim alphabet in the forums. Perhaps you can contact the person that created the alphabet and they can give you some tips. I looked on SL Exchange and could not find the link for the set. So according to them you can create the desired object.
