Bilateral symmetric mirroring

I'm a new builder.

Given that SL imitates nature, and nature is full of symmetry, I'm disappointed there are not better symmetry tools in the prim editor.

Specifically, what I want is a way to mirror a linked object across a coordinate plane. For instance, if you build a left arm, then a right arm is the same, except mirrored bilaterally. Have I missed the tool for this? Is there anything simpler than manually rotating and repositioning each prim in the copied object?

There is no easy way to do it. However someone wrote a script you might try:

/15/9a/38165/1.html

I have not used the script myself, the script is discussed in this thread:

/54/f4/44183/1.html

it's a great script, and i use it often!

if you like, you can im me in 2l, and i can send you the script packaged up with a mirror, and two versions of the script. (one mirrors the object in place, and one mirrors it across the centerline. none of them copy, you have to do that yourself, first.)

I have some questions about this, i.e. mirroring front to back and left to right but I suppose I should ask where appropriate.

Thank you

Excellent. Glad to see if was a pain many people experienced, and that there is a solution. (Frankly, a built-in mirror tool would be far more valuable to me than adding voice chat. This mirror script looks decent but not as trivial as a built-in tool would be.)

I'm playing with the mirror script, but a friend told me some of the script is out of date. I can't get the mirror script to work. can someone go into more detail how to set it up. I'm a newbie and dying to get a mirror to work.

Hooten, I sent you a folder called "Flip Script" it comes with both scripts, and an easy to understand manual. Let me know if you need help.

If you don't mind, I would like to try the Flip Script. Can you send me a copy?

Appreciate it if you can!

Is this very naive of me? What's wrong with Shift-dragging a copy and rotating it?

When you have prims linked, simple rotation cannot achieve mirroring. At best with a 180° rotation you will see the far side of a flat multi-prim object, not it's mirror image. Say you have made a right hand of 6 prims; it cannot be turned into a left hand by rotation; a 180° rotation will put the palm on the wrong side. It must be mirrored to make a left hand.

Xylo

There's more to this than simple prims. Imagine a left shoe, made of prims. The skew, cuts, and other changes to the prims are not something that can just be rotated. Rotate a left shoe, and it's still a left shoe. Prims need to be shifted in relation to each other, and shaped in different ways, to turn it into a right shoe.

Hello,
Is it possible for you to send me that flip script too?
