Hi all,

I'm trying to create barbs to use for collars and such, but i run into the size problem... i cannot get them small enough :(

The object is built of the following prims:
2 torus that makes the spiral
4 torus that make up the sharp end
you can see picture of it from two angles here http://home.no.net/gbmoss/barbwire.jpg

Is there another way i can make this to get them smaller... even use of a tool would be a option, or is this idea dead?

PLEASE HELP ME !!!!

Wow, those are really cool barbs :) Hope you get this worked out. I've only been tinkering with tiny prims myself and not sure where a torus is concerned. I did some searching and here's one thing I found about a tiny torus - although this sounds smaller than what you'd need, I'm sure you could adjust it accordingly if this is actually what you might need.

Here is what Vincent Nacon said about his super small prim:

I've made a Torus at 0.00001m x 0.00001m x 0.00003m
(had to use GL Intercepter to grab the prim model in 3D Max Studio to measure it.)

Make torus.
Path Cut B=0.98 E=0.99
Hollow=95.0
Hole Size X=0.05 Y=0.05
Profile Cut B=0.03 E=0.05
Taper X=1.0 Y=1.0
Radius=1.0

--Beware, after you set the scale, don't deselect it. You will NOT be able to pick/grab that prim again because it's too small to be selected in SL. It gets smaller than a pixel in your viewer. You will need a Parcel Owner to return the object via Objects list.--

that is false

you may not be able to click on it but you will be able to select it with holding down the Left mouse button and sliding over your entire screen.

I'm not sure what you mean, MoxZ. How could anything be permanently smaller than a pixel? If something is too small to see (or to click on), simply zoom in on it. Only GUI elements have fixed pixel dimensions, not 3D objects. Even the absolute smallest of objects can become hundreds or thousands of pixels wide when you zoom in.

Sometimes, though, selection can become challenging, particularly if an object's center is not where it seems it should be, due to excessive cutting or prim-torturing. But there's nothing that can't be selected. If you're having trouble grabbing something, just draw a selection box around it, and you'll get it. There's no need to have stuff returned to you for this purpose, ever. :)

Return or not return... eiter way it's no problem as i have return rights in my home sim. I simply need to build using another group and voila i can return it myself if i need to :)

Thanks for those values MoxZ i will try them right away :)

EDIT: I just tried and seeing it was not any problem like several people say, hovever it was not possible to make it into a shape that will work for barbs so i think i'm stuck :(

Didn't write it! Copied and pasted it from another post that I found.
Dunno...just trying to help someone figure out how to tinyize a torus.

The thing is, the limitations of the zoom tool in SL make for the possibility of losing the smallest possible nanoprims. While the polygons will be there, the pixels are too large to represent them and zoom is incapable of getting close enough and maintaining a stable field of view. (^_^)y

Thanks Lightwave, sculpties has been the answer all the time but unfortunately to make them is beyond my knowledge limitations :( I'm also a very slow learner, it took me nearly one year to manage building simple small things (i have done some buildings and funiture) so i just give up this i think.... thanks to all for your good advices and heads-up... it's really appreciated
