I have just tried the 1st tutorial in the wiki and I must say that its brilliant!!!!

Having made several attempts to learn scripting I fell by the wayside on every attempt due to it becomming too technical too quickly.

From only the 1st tutorial I now understand a lot more than from reading several other missives.

It is a perfect start for someone who understands the basics of SL building and interaction and all the jargon is fully explained in words even a numbskull like me can understand.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

I cant wait to get into the next tutorial now.

Update: I dont know if this is supposed to be part two of your tutorial so i will not condem it out of hand

OK I went to the CHATBOT tutorial and got totally lost:(
I have no idea from the intro what it is supposed to be teaching me. It mentions things like fixed point numbers and a prefix calculator that mean nothing as they have not been mentioned previously.

It is like explaining the controls of a car then expecting me to dismantle the engine and rebuild it

I switched off almost immediately.

This is meant as constructive critisism not an attack. I am probably the typical person you are trying to reach with your tutorials so I think it is relevant

Hurley, thank you for your comments. As you have discovered, the LSL Wiki already has a number of tutorials (as well as links to external tutorials) targeted at different audiences. The Chatbot Tutorial is not part of LSL 101: The Wikibook. But then, I'm not sure whether the tutorial that you regard so highly is either. If by "first tutorial", you mean http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Help:Getting_started_with_LSL, that precedes the LSL 101 project. The pages that have been submitted specifically as a result of this thread start at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_101:_The_Wikibook. There isn't all that much there, yet. But if that is what you praised, it's nice to hear! If it's not, we would welcome your comparison with whichever one you did feel was so good.

Thanks Omei

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Help:Getting_started_with_LSL

is the one i looked at

I have taken a look at the link you gave and read all the pages you have done so far.

Congratulations!

Again it is written in no geek speak language and is easy to follow:)

I look forward to further pages being added with baited breath.

WELL DONE and more power to your elbow.
I am happy to be a test subject for further entries. If I can understand it then it then anyone should be able to:)

I have begun to edit "Gentle Introduction", and might open the front page next. Does the "Gentle Introduction" series of pages represent the first in what might become several paths?

If all formats are implemented as Omei summarizes in Post #43
/8/4c/318943/2.html#post2416496
...then the front page could provide a lead-in for each of these paths, along with links to other entry points for LSL learners, such as Getting_started_with_LSL
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Getting_started_with_LSL

/me tips his hat to Prajna for a great start in the Gentle Introduction, and to Omei for gettin' this ball a rollin' !

Welcome, Azwaldo!

My original thought for "A Gentle Introduction" was that it would be aimed at someone with no programming experience. As it stands now, it "is written for the SL user who has no experience with computer programming; or, for users with programming experience who would like a gentle introduction to LSL." and the two paths more or less fork (although the intent of the path isn't explicit) at the bottom of the page. Assuming that both of these paths continued being developed, I think it would make sense to reorganize a little so that both of these paths are visible from the main page.

As it stands now, LS 101: The Wikibook is only one of many LSL Wiki tutorials accessible from https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Tutorial. I would be inclined not to pull all the references from that page into the LS 101 introduction page until the LS 101 has a lot more weight of its own. But a link from the LS 101 intro back to the general LSL_Tutorial page would be useful for someone who enters the Wiki at LSL 101.
