Need to update a script rapidly to multiple objects in multiple locations?

Scripting Deployment Services has the solution!

Just drop your new scripts(s) into a central box (which could be on your property) and it will be automatically distributed to all nominated objects!

How does this work?

You will supply to me the location(s) where your objects are and add an updater module to them. Everything else is handled automatically!

To detect the updates, there are two paradigms (your choice):
- the new script will have a suffix "_update", which will be removed after delivery. The old script will be deleted
- the new script will have a verison suffix, eg " 0011". The old script will be disactivated or deleted (your choice)

Charges are per deployment configuration, which comprises a set of objects and locaitons that you want updated. Updates are locked to your userid. The charges are as follows:

- setup fee L$50000 (or 50USD), plus
- system access L$20000 (or 20USD), per month

Disclaimer: this post is not contractual. Service and charges may change.

You're charging $US !?

Ok, where's my contract? Where's my SLA with 95% uptime guarantee? Where's my waiver of penalties for early withdrawal?

Some of us play this game and build things like this purely for the fun of it. pfft.

Wow, I could be totally wrong here, but I think you may be overestimating the current potential to make $us.

I'm strongly tempted to set up my own system to do this and undercut Azelda's prices.

Profit is good thing. Azelda, I'd like to talk with you one-on-one about things financial. My ingame "find" is broken, so icq? email? phone?

I don't mean to bust Azelda too hard on this, but the fact that the guy has a way to communicate across sims doesn't seem to be that special. Maybe in and of itself it's pretty cool, but hypermarketing it through all of these posts to the Projects forum, for US$ no less, seems kinda silly.

Is this even possible?

It is my understanding that new scripts copied into objects by the inventory API commands are not runnable until they are manually recompiled.

Heh, I usually feel tempted to offer whatever else people are offering for free.
I have a "world-travel" script myself. Just add llGiveInventory :)

Wow, a SL service that costs 5x the cost of a premium membership!

Its a bit of a niche market. There are only about 4 projects in SL that could use this service, and one of them is my own :-O

Ama's Economic Lesson: Lower Demand means lower prices.

;)

My other tip is that if it is so exclussive as to only have 4 potential users, my guess is that all 4 of those would be able to create the system themselves, and probably be able to create it far easier than they can make $50,000L + $20,000L each month.

ama 2,000L$ =1USD so it would be a 100,00$L price for setup, and 40,000L$ a month

Okay... Ive only read this first post, so heres my opinion on this....

How do you plan on getting around the script deactivation 'bug'? Giving scripts with llGiveInventory() nullifys the scripts given; they need to be manually re-saved in the reciever.

I dont see how this is really worth that much money...

I fail to see how that relates Ryen? He posted L$ prices as well as US$ prices, I referenced those prices in my post, and somehow now those numbers are wrong? Huh? I'm not talking about land, I was talking about how much L$ he was charging.

Good idea, bad prices. Make it reasonably affordable and you just might find a market.

Although I doubt it would be a big market -- as most people needing to update scripts already have or would design their own update methods.

Well, I dont mind doing stuff for free. Im the only person to have created an SL SourceForge project so far (as far as I know?) and Im a major contributor to the Scripting Libraries, possibly the largest single contributor?

What I would like to change is a peculiar habit that seems to have become common-place of people who come into the forums and offer to "buy" a script for the equivalent of 50 cents. It's just like wtf?

Personally I will do stuff for free or at between 50% or 100% of real-cost (ie between 15000 and 30000 L$/hour).

I will not pretend to "sell" stuff thats taken 30 hours solid of my time + 10 years professional expereicne + the weeks of learning LSL, for like 50 cents. It's just not going to happen.

Ananda wrote:

Ok, so where were you when I was learning LSL? Where are the free Ananda Sandgrain scripts? I will doublecheck my inventory when I log but Im pretty sure I will not find a plethora of free Ananda Sandgrain scripts in there. I could be wrong

Let's check the scripting libraries ( /invalid_link.html and /invalid_link.html )

- scripts submitted by Ananda Sandgrain: 0
- scripts submitted by me: 20 (and there are some really good scripts here)

Youll find all the scirpts that you need in the library to build the system that is on offer here. The most important core modules are *all* in the library, I added them the other day. You just need to spend a little bit of time to glue them together.

Lastly, I remember about 2 months ago making a plee for people to open up their scripts, to stop locking them, to stop pretending to sell them:

"Just want to say that I find the whole in-game IP thing frustrating. I will quit soon most likely and this will be one of the three main reasons."

Darwin replied:

"This sounds an aweful lot like communisim, which I hate to say. It's good in theory of course, but it's not the way humans work. Some humans like profit. Not all humans. Not even neccasaraly most. But the way a place without currency works, if there's only a small group, it can't work.

"Communisim is like spandex: good in theory, but when real people start using it, it gets ugly."

Well Az, me being one of those that Darwin likes to label communist, I usually say that this is just a game. If you enjoy spending your time scripting then you shouldnt require any compensation for your time. If you dont enjoy scripting then dont do it :)
The whole economy is superfluous to me... I see this as a place where collaborative creation is itself the goal. You dont need ratings or stipends. You just need to sit back, relax and enjoy yourself. SL for me is what I used to do with Bryce and ICQ, except in SL it doesnt take 5 minutes to render a single image etc. :)
