Hi,
I'm starting work on some multi-level buildings and I'm curious to get an opinion from the community on whether people prefer stairs, elevators or teleports between floors in buildings, both commercial and residential.
I'll try and turn this into a poll but if you want to just post your opinion (with reasons as well if you'd like to share them) that would be great.

They all have their place. Just make sure whatever you use fits the theme. i.e. Mud huts and elevators don't work... (though teleports might if you disguise them as magic rather than tech) Super-hi-tech builds are ideal for teleports... Private houses use stairs...

i voted teleports but there's nothing wrong with stairs if you give the view enough room so i can see where i'm going (spiral stair makers i'm looking at you) and size them so i don't go bumpity bumpity bump all the way.
elevators........bleh. maybe if they were faster and didn't make you look like you were falling.
how about some love for ramps in the poll? and pie so Siobhan doesn't kill you.

From: Kris Ritter slopes.
one prim spiral slopes. Yes, I was kind of lumping slopes together with stairs. But they probably should of been on the poll as different options. Sorry.

Stairs are prim wasteful things that go bumpity bump bump bump and make your avie look stoopid whether they're going up or down. Slopes are efficient, functional, streamlined and pretty! VOTE DA SLOPE!

VOTE DA SLOPE! Not if you're an expert spiral stair maker who makes them big enough and shallow enough to avoid the bumpity bump and the falling off and the hitting your head and the not seeing where you're going... Can't help the priminess though, lol... I guess stairs are for da rich peeps who can afford loads of prims. And Kris, stop posting... I need to catch up with ya hun...

How about building your place so it's geared towards the one thing avs can do well, which is flight?

Eggy, I already use open roofs on my commercial builds so people can drop in but I find that, going between floors, it's really not very friendly, especially if the build is relatively small.

That's great! There are so few people in this place who realize that we're essentially humanoid avians. Back in... 1.0 or so, Thunder Electric had these really cool apartment towers in Freelon where I used to hang out all the time. Each floor was accessible through flight alone, and it worked great. The front doors all lead to a little landing platform. I really wish more builds were flyer-friendly.

I use fly holes but I've been known to use elevators in things like hotels and such. Elevators are bumpity bumpy too (you can throw a no-sound script into an object to make it quiet, BTW) and tend to make your av run if it's a long trip. If it's gotta be an elevator, I prefer the elevators you have to sit on that have stand animations replacing the sit anim.
And I agree, staircases are prim hogs!

I voted stairs (or ramps, which I prefer), but teleports are second. I HATE elevators. I always end up getting squashed underneath or falling off.
I like flying between floors, but not through tiny holes. Due to lag I can't often see which floor I'm flying to, or I bonk my noggin on the ceiling. Make them wide open, like Mourning After.

I use guidance prims on the floor -- a cylinder colored that matches the opening above so you can just walk up to it and fly up from there. Another solution is cylindrical forcefields that are made more conical (leading you up into the opening).

I like the idea of having a large target (the cylinder base) which guides you to a smaller opening.

From: Lora Morgan Oh, by the way, thanks for polling us before building Hehe, well I was curious what opinions would be. In the build I'm currently finishing off I've gone for a ramp which works quite nicely. I did consider teleports but as this is residential that just doesn't feel 'right' - not really homely at all. I put elevators in just to see what the response was like - personally I don't like them.

I use teleports in my towers in Miramare. I do have a big staircase on the main entrance because it gives more of a grand feeling when approaching my build. However, if you put a full alpha ramp on top of your stairs, you don't get the bumpity bump I've been known to use spiral ramps as well. Ramps are good.

I like the look of pretty stairs, but they perform exceedingly poorly (if one can say such a thing) when your avatars is running up them... BUMPBUMPBUMP, it's such a nightmare. Elevators are grounded in "reality" and I like them in some instances, although they tend to be jerky and you'll notice your av start to hop and bounce as they move along. Overall, a point-to-point Teleporter is what does it for me. I am not totally opposed to the other two methods, but as a means of convenience, I prefer the TP. In the paraphrased words of FlipperPA Peregrine: "And did you know in here... YOU CAN FLY???"
