Making megaprims

Okay I met a avi at OS and he was showing a bunch of us that he could make megaprims. He said it was very easy to do and just took four lins of script but no matter how much I asked he would not show me how he did it. Now I am not that intrested in megaprims but it just really make me mad that the guy would not tell us how to do it. So can someone please tell me how to make them?

Thought they patched that bug.

Mega prims are available free, either in-world or on SL Exchange and Shop.OnRez, so don't pay for 'em.

They cannot be "made" anymore via any method. At best, they can be "rezzed" from existing inventory by person or script, but that is all.

And actually, there has never been a way to "make" them in SL. They were loaded onto the grid from outside through a now closed loophole. The relatively limited number of sizes is all there will ever be.

So no, no one was making megaprims with 4 or any other number of lines of script. BUT......... are you sure you aren't talking about PRIM TORTURE?????????????? Which is completely different and in most cases can ONLY be done by script? With it, you are able to make sizes larger then 10 meters (up to around 18 meters? Can't remember :( ).

Prim Torture is fun and there is a really cool and free tool available to experiment with, but there are also a lot of limitations. It used to be the only way to get other shapes but now it is much easier to make sculpt textures instead.

I think it's on the road map to allow creation of megaprims, after the ability to check if any part of a prim overlaps the parcel it's on.

Now that will be nice, to be able to create a prim the size of your lot; 512 oblong, 1024, 4096 etc. Some of the existing sizes do fit some lots but there should be an increasing demand to fit the lot you have now, especially coupled with the ability to build to 4096 meters now.

Not holding my breathe for WHEN it would be available thou :)

Well thanks for answering my question about the megaprims. At least it satisfied my curiosity about them. That was fast too! Thanks for the help.

Do you have a cite for that? Every Linden quote I've seen states that while they may not remove existing megaprims from the database, they do not plan to allow new ones to be created.

I saw it from a linden a little while back.. it wasn't really a direct quote, I believe it was just a hint to keep your eyes open - they were working on it.

the plan to allow creation of larger prims is referred to often as "Megaprim Liberation"

Not to be confused with the guy with one leg longer than the other putting his shoes on which is referred to often as "Megalimb Preparation"

:D

Huh. Well, cool. I'll stoop to saying that now that we have a physics engine that (supposedly) won't blow its brains out over them. ;)

It's possible to make a disk or a hoop that's 20m across using a tortured tube, but you can do that just by playing with the prim edit controls; you don't need a script to do it.

I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid.

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

(closer to 19m actually, but yah)

As a floor, it's HARDER to rez prims on than a huge prim though.

http://www.massively.com/2008/05/10/megaprims-on-the-loose-again/

There are new exploits and new packs now available... and you can create prims greater than 10x10x10 with a little xml editing but right now they snap back to 10x10x10 when you stop editing. Need to find out how to make the size stick.

The resizing seems to still be stuck with a server side check, the current method relies on rezzing them at the desired size.

I've made some of those and sent them to you in-world.

I have found by taking a prim 20x20x0.5 and selecting the Cylinder object shape, you can make a disc 20m diameter in size, and if you cut or hollow it out, it will perform like any other prim.

THREE people have send me these prims of my dreams.. and I'm so grateful.. Thank you. I've been given a large number of "sets" as well, so I can just imagine some of my projects losing a few prims over the next few months.

I'm really excited that this might be an "baby step" before the official release of larger prims, and thus the ability to make them at "whatever size is needed"...

Imagine being able to make your own huge-prim builds.. without Gene Replacement's name all over your work?

I'm hoping....

It would be great if I could figure out the apparently cryptic libsl - run testclient - as despite my best efforts I have found no documentation, on pretty much anything, and executing the text client does nothing that I can determine except flash up a dos screen for a millisecond.

*sigh*

Well.. Gene's name is well known for the prims he made. And I'm willing to accept that "for now" the buildings I make "for myself" might have some other people's name on some of the prims.. after all, any furniture I buy will as well.

But I'm just hopeful that there will come a time.. when I can make the airship I want to, out of my prims, with my name as creator..

I'd be willing to learn a bit about programming to acheive it, but SLProxy looks like a bucketful.
