Kinda feel sorry for all those people that have used prims and such in the past though.
Yeah, whereas before we were forced to use:

if( llDetectedTouch(0) == SomeNumber )
// do stuff

Now we're free to use:

vector touch = llDetectedTouchUV(0);
if( touch.x < max.x && touch.x > min.x && touch.y < max.y && touch.y > min.y )
// do stuff

How primitive we were... er, still are. :p

consoles with more than 256 buttons. Multibutton consoles that don't kill the parcel's prims.. a particle lab you can rez ANYPLACE you can find 2 prims free. Better inworld sculpting tools. (I can see SLoft using this to let you position control points by clicking the point then clicking the disc. )

someone's going to use this to make a web browser..

I can see lower prim chess sets... (one prim for the board instead of 64+) I'm sure we can look forward to seeing more "hud games" like Tiny Empires getting leaner and cleaner. Hair shops with fewer prims (click the haircolour you want, then "buy";) "smart" vendors for large numbers of items (I can think of my eyes, a 28 prim display... could now be 5?)

The question isn't "are we ready for these new functions"

The question is.. "are SL users as a whole ready for the changes WE are going to make once these functions exist?"

P.S. "PRIM_GLOW" still isn't official yet, so given how insanely long the 1.20 cycle has been, promises for 1.21 don't seem like something all that pressing.

well 1.20.15 is out so we are closer at least :)
My Programable Calculator HUD and Venue managment systems now start to look feasable without 124 prims :)
Add this to mono's improved speed and memory and a whole new world is opening .

I believe the llDetectedTouch* functions are slated for the 1.21 viewer (when that hits RC). Since the functions have hit the SVN, http://svn.secondlife.com/trac/linden/changeset/870?new_path=%2F I have written up stub articles for the six functions:

So can anyone tell us the approximate arrival time for this new stuff? When is the 1.21 likely to show up?

well let's see, we JUST got 1.20

1.21 will be the new "Beta Client" (I think they're ditching the name "Release Candidate".. thank god).

At this very moment, there is no 1.21b1. So, that's likely to be where we'll see it when it begins to show up.

Won't it need to be (in theory) in the next couple weeks, if we want to compile scripts for mono?

We were discussing this Friday at the Mono Office hour, 1.21 RC0 is slated to come out in a week or two. Mono around Aug 16th. (but these times can change of course) :)
