How big's the Wiki databse (and what db does it use for that matter)? It could be possible to make offline browser for this stuff, which would have a local database in something like SQLite or XML. Wouldn't be editable but its still an infinately better reference than that god awful "help" document that comes with SL. I happen to know a bit of C++ if the wiki admins are interested in this Would be a very interesting MSDN kind of thing, in case someone needs the page right away or some loosers decide to attack the Plywood Cube(tm) again. edit: Forgot to mention it could be done with Python and possibly Zope instead of C/C++ (i know python too) if people want it that way edit: nevermind about the zope... i thought it was just a database thing-actually more of a web tool lol

yeah, i was looking at it, and it isn't big. especially once you take into consideration how much redundant entries is in there. Every revision is a new entry in the database. i am wondering if it would be overly hard to write a php script to go through and make a static html version... hmm... might even be able to just modify the wakka wiki stuff to do it for us... let me get back to you on that, unless someone already has such a script prepared, in which case, contact me.

From: Xero Zaius It could be possible to make offline browser for this stuff, which would have a local database in something like SQLite or XML. I wouldn't do it that way myself. I'd just store the pages in simple filestore, use SWISH-E to index them for web and commandline access, and knock up a script to turn the ll entries into Unix man-page entries. Ideally the Wiki would send any changed pages to us by email as well, so I'd kick off the SWISH-E reindexing and man page generation automatically when appropriate Wiki mail comes in.

My question is who in their right mind would do this?
First there was a days-long DOS attack on LL, now there is a days-long DOS attack on a freaking programming resource that has to do with it?!? Also mentioned is some quasi-DOS on sluniverse.com?!
Seems to me that someone really wants SL as a whole to fail.

From: Apotheus Silverman My question is who in their right mind would do this? It may be one of the obvious candidates (mindless kiddies etc, or someone who got banned and wants revenge), but look beyond the obvious candidates too. Here are a couple of scary examples ... - Criminals who want particular people to waste time or get stressed overcoming the attack ... [diverse reasons, from burglary or getting more time with the sysadmin's wife (or husband) to corrupt salesmen who want to get a security solution installed to full-blown protection racketeering from organized crime]
- Covert networking specialists, who use the deluge of DOS traffic to hide covert channels of communication ... [Government agencies, spies, drug rings, mercenaries and terrorists, corporate elite, political manipulators, endless list]
I worked on security in the defense industry many years ago, and the above examples are pretty mild. Those totally without paranoia probably aren't aware of the sleezy underbelly of the world. What you see is very often just the cover. Outside the kiddie sphere, the first thing that's set up is an innocent to frame or other diversion. Hopefully it's just kiddies this time.

It'd be great if you could get this working. Then I could compile the HTML into a .CHM file, and keep up with wiki updates very easily. (Right now I have to update the .CHM sources manually, and it's a pain.)

Nada, have you considered merging multiple consecutive changes done by a single person (perhaps within a fixed period of time (e.g. 20 minutes)) into a single page? I often make stupid mistakes when editing pages that take me a few revisions to get completely correct. It might reduce the database size a bit.

I usualy go through 4 or 5 revisions until I get it to a point I like.

How about posting a downloadable version of LSL wiki? SO we have offline access until you get your issues resolved?

This Account Has Been Suspended
I have suspended this account until further notice. This is some sort of malicious attack, since it is querying pages that do not exist, is doing so 150,000 times in the last 2 hours, has the referrer showing up as a porn site with a rotating ip address, and is doing 750mb of traffic from this entirely text based site, again in under two hours. I apologize for the inconvience, I am working with with the host right now to get this fixed. If worse comes to worse, I just made a back-up so we can move the site to a new domain if necessary
Alright!! One big BOOOO! for porn sites!
:loud boos fill the void of space:
I've seen quite a few attacks on such services as message boards, blogs, and guestbooks before when I was on the support team for XMB. Even with keeping up on security updates for the forums I run on my sites I've only had one forum defaced. 7 times by Middle Eastern hackers and 3 times by malicious porn site members. Usually through a carefully constructed URL or through member login fields by SQL injection.
Either way I've tried tracking down these attacks and never once received any sort of response from the ISPs and hosts the hackers used. A shame really since those who are capable of such acts would surely find good jobs as programmers.
I hope you're able to get the wiki back up and running soon!

From: Millie Thompson A shame really since those who are capable of such acts would surely find good jobs as programmers. This is unlikely to be completely honest. I was a hacker in a past life and ran with the Philadelphia 2600 crowd for awhile. I know from my own experiences and from interacting with many, many script kiddies that 99.5% of all "hackers" only learn how to exploit holes and don't generally learn all the details of "why" that hole exists and what other "fun" can be had once a hole is exploited. The programming skills of these types are almost universally sloppy and newbish at best. Unless things have changed in the last 6 years or so. Somehow I doubt it.

In other words just like those who coded SP2 for Windows XP. ^^

sorry for posting this in multiple places... how can I change my SciTE-ez to jump to that URL when I press F1 rather than the old site?
I tried opening the global and the local and there were no better clues in there.
I found this area:
SciTE help command.scite.help="$(SciteDefaultHome)\doc\SciTEDoc.html" command.scite.help.subsystem=2
But that just looks at the local help file right?
I also looked at:
command.help.filepattern command.help.subsystem.filepattern
But that was no help either.

AHA! I found it!
If you want to temporarily put the new address in, look in the directory where you installed SciTE, and in a file called "lsl.properties" you will see where to change it. (MAKE A BACKUP FILE!!)
Sorry if you took the time to write this also. =)

Static / offline LSL wiki for download (or online browsing): http://lslwiki.sdfjkl.orgThis is just a byproduct of the conversion to another wiki software with different markup (bleh).

Thanks, Ezhar. One bug you're probably already aware of, but just in case... The files at lslwiki.sdfjkl.org have some improper tags in them. For example, compare the page http://lslwiki.sdfjkl.org/xmlrpc.html with the same page at http://www.tyrellcorporation.org/disabled/XMLRPC and note that the XML examples contain '<' and '>' characters instead of "<" and ">". This causes the XML examples to be rendered improperly. (I discovered this while trying to build the files into a .CHM.)

Whoops. Looks like this one is down now, too. Same attacker IP(s)? Would there be any interest in a new home for the wiki? Has anyone asked Linden Lab if they would be willing to provide a box for users to run the wiki? Any other thoughts for getting the dynamic version up? (Maybe HTTP authentication to even access it?)

Hi Ezhar
Any chance of getting your .tar file in .zip format?
I can't unpack it on a windows XP system. Have tried winzip and winace. both failed
