Updates breaking scripts? Do they sometimes?

I rarely create scripted objects so am unaware if this is an 'on again, off again' problem. But last week I created a simple scripted object that when touched emitted a sound. I was rather proud of myself as I had learned some skills to make this item that I hadn't previously had.

Now since Wednesday's update it doesn't work. I don't know if this is a simple matter to fix or if a new script is required or if I'm SOL.

Any info would be nice......

Heavens, if this had been a more complex project, say like a 'wand' and an update had broken it I'd be seriously pissed. Heck I feel bad enough now and it's just my lil ole gong.

Scripts not broken as I thought

I KNOW this doesn't belong in the 'Second Life Answers' but I feel I need to let it BE known, so here it is.

Move or delete as you will, but people REALLY need a place to help each other!

And since you took 'General' away maybe this will help someone.

A few nites back I posted this thread: /54/a0/137711/1.html

And until tonight I was still bummed and thinking SL had somehow broke a script.

Well I have to say after a couple customer complaints I realized what had happened.

Most of us recall the Pete Pegler 'Kisssing boxes' attack yes?

Well, that nite I turned off the scripts on my land, hoping to disable the attacking prims. But until tonite I had not realized that I needed to turn them back ON to allow my vendors and and scripted items to work. I thought it was limited to 'others' scripts.

Many will say 'Well duh!' But I wasn't aware. So for 2 days we had non-working vendors.

So no, the last update did NOT break my script.....I guess I did, in response to a griefer and my ignorance of what that would entail.

May I respectfully request that you give us SOME avenue to post these types of things. I mean seriously...this is just one dumb lesson I learned and many may know, but many more may not.

You will receive a deluge of questions that maybe WE can answer. USE us!

I'm glad your problem was so easy to fix.

Yes the Linden's do often break scripts with thier updates. This last one broke rotation scripts, making birds and sharks that I have made and sold rotate at breakneck speed. The Linden's fixed the scripting problem, technically, but any birds or sharks or anyone elses rotating objects that were in world are still rotating at the same speed. They have to be selected and reset before they will return to a normal rotation speed.

So now I have hundreds of birds and sharks that I have sold in world rotating crazily and I am getting numerous IM's per day from customers wanting to know how to fix them.

On top of it, I sold some of the birds and sharks as no Mod, so now the owners cannot reset those scripts and I feel obligated to replace the products.

if you havn't already you should try the following.

You mentioned Vendors.. are they all your vendors? or do you rent spaces to other merchants? If the latter, I recommend making a group for them to be a member of, and make sure they have that group active when they place items on the group owned land.

If they are all your items, then you can ignore the above.

There should be a setting (I havn't owned land yet, but I think I saw something) that allows you to disable most scripts except those owned by yourself or the group.

Maybe that will help?
