Unfortunately, I am going to have to cancel this competition due to a lack of entries.

I am disappointed because I thought this would be an interesting competition and that the $500 prize would attract some good designer / scripters.

well, this is the first i've heard of it.

did you post it to the in-world events listing? i might have seen something like this, but as soon as it said 'develop a business web-communication app,' i knew it was out of my league. but do i understand from this thread, you have the 'business web communication' scripts already and just want buttons, bells, whistles, and geegaws? (and a prim kiosk design?)

if you only posted on the forums (and where was this thread moved from??) i doubt you reached a large portion of your target audience.

To be honest, it didn't seem like it was very well-thought-out from the outset; I mean you were discussing issues with the voting process with potential applicants not too long before it started. Also, having the contestants vote on each others' entries is kinda weird, and almost guaranteed to become problematic. You really needed some independent judges and specific criteria for what would be graded as a "winning entry".

I also think the subject matter was a contributing factor. It didn't seem like there was a lot of detail to work with; "Hi I have a generic web business platform and am paying L$100k for the most creative use of it". Doesn't exactly get the juices flowing, for me anyway. It also smacked a bit of promotionalism; just a way to get a bunch of people to write stuff for you to make your application platform successful. I suppose there is nothing wrong with that for you, but what is there as a real incentive for the other 95+% who won't get anything out of the effort?

I mean, I would be interested in competing for a L$100k prize, but you have to realize that good scripters are often very busy people, and there has to be something REALLY compelling about a contest like that for many of us to drop what we are doing and blow a month competing for a prize most of us wouldn't get. Instead we could invest that time in our own business platforms and make that L$100k plus some. :)

All that, and your website domain name is just too long. :P

PS- L$100k is about US$325

Bloodsong, sorry you missed this, and I am also sorry that I'm not that familiar with promotional avenues in SL. So, I started this thread in "Resident Answers" and was advised to post here and to the Scripters Mailing List.

Talarus, yes, the voting process had problems... could they have been worked out - I don't know. Scripting Contest... of course, it was a $500US promotion. Please see point 11 in the contest rules. Do you really think my domain name is too long? :-)

Thanks everyone for all of your comments!
