Defeating Uberweapons

The basic answer is to go somewhere that uses a combat system instead of using standard SL combat.

Because standard SL combat is a wide open market (ie, there's no central organisation making sure that the resulting overall "game" is fun), and everyone has the same tools, there will always be either an unbeatable weapon or an unbreakable shield on the market at any given moment, probably depending on which one had the most recent innovation. (My guess as to why it's turned out this way, is that combat on SL was designed way back in version 1.0 around the premise that everyone would be making their own weapons.)

I agree, apart from what you say on shields, there will never be a shield to protect you 100% as there is nothing to stop someone from getting your key. (i can't see sl removing the ability to get an avatars key)

Shields are mainly cosmetic in the way that they are only for looks, I'd spend money on non physical protection/vehicles/chairs, as they stop the most annoying attacks (in my view), the orbiter/push attacks. They also render traps useless.

As Yumi said, best to find a combat themed sim that utilizes a combat system.
